What's the meaning of "be present" here?

"Our commitment to a lover is embodied in our commitment to the spiritual path. We make a vow to do whatever it takes to be present in the relatioinship, which is the same as making a vow to be present to ourselves."

The word "present" is used twice here. What's the meaning of it?

Actually, it's the locution "to be present" which is twice used. It means to pay attention to one's lover and oneself, rather than to allow other considerations to distract one from this important matter.
