Well I Did It. I Took Early Retirement

I start getting my first checks in June.

More life changing than that, I'm retiring from live performance except for the occasional Cirkus reunion every couple of years until one of us dies. I'm doing my last live show March 11 . I have agonized over this but I have finally reached the point where the hassle of being a band leader and all the bullshit that goes with it is no longer outweighed by the joy of performance. I'll continue to dj. the money is actually better and I don't have to depend on being a cat herder.

I guarantee you I'm going out that night with a bang though.

I may move to the beach this summer.

@blueveinedthrobber,
Congrats on calling it a career. The beach is my neighborhood so I guess I'll see you around.

@blueveinedthrobber,
Yep, Wilmington. I highly recommend it. Lots to do, lots of sun, cooler summers and warmer winters than Raleigh, even an interesting night life scene although I don't know how it stands up compared to Raleigh.

@engineer,
If I'm not working I'm no longer a big night life guy. I will take a little time to garner some dj work on a regular but limited basis and then I just want to ride my bike, go to the gym and I'd like to learn to crab and shrimp from the pier. I love the ocean as much as almost anything. I have a cousin there who will put me up until I get established and get a place for Stephen and me. then again, it's just in the planning stages. I'm a creature of habit and I've been in Raleigh a long time, but without squinney there's really nothing to hold me here. My kids are all grown and on their own and I'm sure I'll see a lot of them if I have a place at the beach. Mr. Green

@edgarblythe,
Congrats! You're going to find that you have made one of the best decisions of your life. Since you seem to be pretty active, you should enjoy a nice, long, healthy, life. Keeping active is the secret to a good retirement.

I retired in 1998, and haven't looked back. The future still looks eternally interesting with many places to visit, revisit, and meet more people - around the planet.

By coincidence SQ I was listening to your music over the weekend and but for the want of a slice of luck you were indeed the first Steven Tyler. You have given so many a great deal of enjoyment over the years and your legacy will outlast us all.

May I add my voice to wish you the very best in the next chapter of your odyssey.
