If you're an American just do what is normal there, call em what they are, like Chinese American or Italian Americans or African Americans that way everybody will know what color you mean and then they can't call you a racist.

@tenderfoot,
Yes, I'm American, but I'm not talking about race/ethnicity- I'm talking about skin color.

@ehBeth,
Okay, humor me- what color would you call her skin?:

Most of Mr. Goldman's questions on a2k, that I've ever perused anyway, have to do with his comics, so I am supposing this does too. I bet those comics are strange. Admittedly many comics are strange on purpose, but I don't think that's the case here.

Over 1/4 of men are colour blind. Get an eye test done.

@JGoldman10,
The basic bottom line is that there is less genetic variation in the entire human race than in a typical group of 50 African monkeys of the same species.

People of color talk about skin color. Asians and Hispnaics do it. I sometimes talk about it.

You want a straight answer? Yes, it is offensive to some to label people by their skin color. The answer can't get any straighter than that.

Yes, I was discussing race and anthropology else where.

I want to ask an ASIAN person if it's offensive to call them orange-skinned, becuase that's how I describe them.

Some people say beige-should I just say that then?

Why not just learn to recognize the common characteristics of the people of each region in Asia and refer to them by region? Not all people from the continent of Asia look the same or are from the same ethnicity... just as all people with darker skin tones are not from the continent of Africa.

What is your definition of an Asian? What ethnicities do you include in that broad label?

Given the photo samples you've posted, the problem you are having is not with a person's skin color. The problem you have is in recognizing bad coloring in the processing of a photograph. Some of them have obvious orange tones in the whole photo, not just the person's skin tone.

Some of these photos appear to have been taken with incandescent lighting (yellow/orangeish cast) while others were taken with either natural lighting or florescent lighting (bluish cast).

@Ceili,
Nothing is wrong with my eyesight.

I'm not talking about those clowns.

A Google search on orange-skinned people brought up this pics:

Would it be offensive to call this Asian girl orange-skinned, or it just the way the light is hitting her?:

There's more than one shade of orange:

There is more than one shade of beige and beige can be orangish, like:

@Cycloptichorn,
Then what should I call her, and the other ones with similar tones? Orangey brown or beige?

@Butrflynet,
Especially yellow - didn't that come from the yellow peril kind of stuff? I'm no expert on all that. Orange seems way out of any kind of ballpark re depicting the skin tones of most humans, except as has been shown, people newly artificial - and then, as bfn said, by lighting.
