So the answer is that the ignore user function has no effect on PMs.

That 's right.
I m trying to remember where I saw something
about complaints qua toxic PMs; I don 't remember where.

I don 't have any problem with this,
but someone asked me for information about it.

But PMs are not the problem, it's email updates which have ceased.

I subscribed to this topic a few days ago and have yet to receive any email notices of updates. I've been logged off and logged in again since subscribing to the topic.

My uneducated assumption is that when the old PhilForum software was hacked and it was merged with the A2K software, the remedies installed to protect the A2K servers also disabled the topic subscription emails.

This is why I asked him the specific questions as to what he was receiving for email notifications.

The PM notifications still work and he may have confused the two.

So you're not receiving updates either.

You might also be right about A2K software remedies to the PhilForum software hacking, for all I know. But that was quite some time ago. My email updates ceased around/during November of last year, quite a while after ....

A question to hamburger:

Are you receiving email updates as well as PM updates?

are you receiving e-mail updates alerting you to new replies on threads that you are subscribed to?

the subject of the e-mail should say: Topic Update - (topic title)

the body of the e-mail should say:

Dear hamburgboy,

A topic you are subscribed to has received a reply since you logged out.

So I'm not alone. I do get email notices that I have receives a PM, but never get notices that someone has replied to a thread I'm watching or one that I've started.

Miss the old way. Sigh.
