I just figured it was all part of the transitional phase/work going on on the forum in general.

If that is the case it would certainly be good to know & not be left wondering if you have some problem with your settings, or perhaps some other problem which needs to be resolved ....

So could an A2K tech person, a moderator, or someone in an informed position on the current circumstances of email updates please clarify the situation?

That would save us guessing.

If they are currently not operating because of the site being under reconstruction, or something like that, I'm sure we'd understand.

We users are hardly in a situation to demand anything! Smile

It's just not clear what the situation actually is at the moment.

The beauty of email updates is that they link you to the exact spot where you left off in the discussion.
for years i relied heavily on updates, especially on the old software.
since the switch, i'd been using them less and less.
yes, at some point i stopped getting them entirely -- maybe two months ago.

at that point i decided to change my ways, and try navigating without them.
i found that read tracking serves the same purpose for threads i've posted to.

the difficulty is following a thread that you haven't posted to.
what i do is e-mail myself the URL of the post where i stopped reading...

@Region Philbis,
I guess it depends on how many threads you're following, Region.

Email updates made following the progress of a large number of threads (whether you've posted to them or not) a pretty easy & seamless process.

But anyway, I'm not here to advocate, I just wanna know what's happening with them!

@msolga,
I dont get any updates anymore, This creates a problem for logging on each time (Im lazy). SO, its easier forme to click on a PM and then I jumpt from there to the site (2 clicks, no waiting)

Yes, you can certainly check "my posts", "my topics", "my tabs",etc, to see if there have been new contributions to a thread.
But you then have to back-track from the last recorded post to the thread & try & find the point where you were last at.

this is where Region is talking about going to read tracking

it takes you back to the last spot you read in the thread automatically

@ehBeth,

although you do lose that 'bookmark' if you log out without viewing it...

@ehBeth,
ohhhhhhhh

I logged out for the first time in ages last night trying to see if an update to one of my threads would generate a email notification if I was logged out (nope). That explains why I didn't have any new posts when I logged back in again.

Oh well, you tried your best, JPB! Wink
Do let us know if any of your experiments manage to generate fresh updates.
That would be a very exciting thing to happen! Smile

So just one final question:

Is anyone on this site still receiving email updates?

That's what I was wondering about ... if they are dead & gone forever, or otherwise.

It is so hard to get a clear answer here!

@hamburgboy,
Hamburger,

Are they updates for topics you have subscribed to or updates/notifications of a new private message being in your inbox?

They're two different mechanisms.

You do?

I guess I've been a bad girl then. Sad

(So some of us are getting them, but others are not. Neutral )

Thanks for responding hamburger. I was getting quite confused, trying to figure this out.

I think that I only get them
after I start a thread to which someone has posted.

I wish I received them under similar circumstances, David.

Thanks for your input.

Point of Information:
Is it possible to prevent a member
from sending PMs to u?

If he is on IGNORE,
will that prevent any PMs from him from
getting thru to the inbox of the Ignorer ?
(I 'm not having that problem; academic inquiry.)
