I have a riddle for you on this fine day Very Happy

A leap year occurs on years divisible by 4 and 400 (but not 100). For example, 1600 was a leap year but not 1700.

How many leap years will there be between 1500 and 2500?

say why each of the below numbers can logically follow this sequence:
100 121 144
a) 169
b) 202 (my favorite and why i wrote this)
c) 209

markr wrote:
a) consecutive squares (base 10)
b) consecutive squares (base 7: 49, 64, 81, 100 base 10)
c) not sure yet

yes...
a) 10^2 = 100
11^2 = 121
12^2 = 144
so the missing number is 13^2 or 169

b) 100 in base 10 = 100
100 in base 9 = 121
100 in base 8 = 144
so the missing number is 100 in base 7 or 202

c) still pending

7 * (7 + 7) + floor(sqrt(7))

floor(n) is the largest integer less than or equal to n

LEAP YEARS
[(2500 - 1500) / 4 + 1] - 8 = 243

Your (b) and my (b) are two different justifications for 202.

I'm unlikely to get (c) as I've stopped working on it...

Miss mi:

Four 7's

77 /.77 = 100 Cool Cool

It looks like that will just about do it; you clever girl…Did Jovana help you?

"That one wasn't as easy as it looked"

That was so easy; I just couldn't look! Laughing

Mark:

7 * (7 + 7) + floor(sqrt(7)) Cool Cool

floor(n) is the largest integer less than or equal to n

Well, I sure didn't know that!

TehMeh. A leap year…

With ordinary leap years, the calendar year is 365.25 days long. This is too long (compared with 365.2422 days) by 0.0078 days per year. In a 400-year interval, this accumulates to 3.12 days too long.

The way the calendar corrects for this is by an exception rule for leap years. This exception rule states that century years (divisible exactly by 100) will not be leap years unless they are also exactly divisible by 400. Following this rule, the following years that would normally be leap years are in fact not leap years:
1500, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100, 2200, 2300, 2500, ...

The following century years remain leap years, as would normally be the case anyway: 1600, 2000, 2400, ...

Good morning Jo, oh! I am so ticklish there - Don't you go worrying about stupid 7's.

The final book of the New Testament is Revelation: Chapter 13: Verse 18 introduces the number 666 itself:

"Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

I should have taken your advice and followed God's path….Atchoo - bless you!

"you ought to try the Acronym Game,,, it's so much fun!"

There is only one game I wanna play with you…..and that ain't it!

You like Monopoly?
