It's just I can't sleep for worrying; why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same thing? Why are a "wise man" and a "wise guy" opposites? Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things? So many classes, so little time!

Oh Jovana a song for you:

Well Jo'anna she runs a country
She runs in Durban and the Transvaal
She makes a few of her people happy, oh
She don't care about the rest at all
She's got a system they call apartheid
It keeps a brother in a subjection
But maybe pressure can make Jo'anna see
How everybody could a live as one

[chorus:]
Gimme hope, Jo'anna
Hope, Jo'anna
Gimme hope, Jo'anna
'Fore the morning come
Gimme hope, Jo'anna
Hope, Jo'anna
Hope before the morning come

I hear she make all the golden money
To buy new weapons, any shape of guns
While every mother in black Soweto fears
The killing of another son
Sneakin' across all the neighbours' borders
Now and again having little fun
She doesn't care if the fun and games she play
Is dang'rous to ev'ryone

[chorus]

She's got supporters in high up places
Who turn their heads to the city sun
Jo'anna give them the fancy money
Oh to tempt anyone who'd come
She even knows how to swing opinion
In every magazine and the journals
For every bad move that this Jo'anna makes
They got a good explanation

[chorus]

Even the preacher who works for Jesus
The Archbishop who's a peaceful man
Together say that the freedom fighters
Will overcome the very strong
I wanna know if you're strong Jo'anna
If you wanna hear the sound of drums
Can't you see that the tide is turning
Oh don't make me wait till the morning come

TTH:

Which is the odd one out
Etamin Cool

Yep! The rest are vitamins.

BENMDDER = mind bender Cool

Very clever! Very Happy

TehMeh:

DVD's
TTH had 10, Thoh had 14! Cool

I love that answer!

TehMeh must choose among the following three long-distance plans for his new phone:

Plan A: 99 cents for any call up to 20 minutes, plus 5 cents for each additional minute over 20:

Plan B: a flat rate of 10 cents per minute;

Plan C: a flat rate of 8 cents per minute after a 25 cents connection charge for each call.

Suppose 10% of TehMeh's calls are 1 minute long, 10% are 5 minutes, 30% are 10 minutes, 30% are 20 minutes, 20% are 30 minutes.

Order the plans from cheapest to most expensive: Question

ABC, BAC, BCA, ACB, CBA

I think I'll pretend to make 10 calls each here Very Happy

Plan A would therefore cost: $12.90
Plan B would therefore cost: $13.60
Plan C would therefore cost: $13.13

Therefore (again!) the order would be ACB!
(Unless I made a mistake, which, using Excel to do this, I probably have made Razz )

Quote:
Arrange the ten digits 0 to 9 in three arithmetical sums, using three of the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and using no signs except the ordinary ones implying those operations.

In case there is anyone without the benefit of a fine American education; here is an example to make it quite clear:

3 + 4 = 7 9 - 8 = 1 5 X 6 = 30

However, the above example is not correct , as the number 2 has not been used and the number 3 has been used twice.

Can you come up with a valid solution?

1+4 = 30/6 = 92-87 = 5

TTH writes, "…Maybe I should use Excel"

Good point; although I have never used it, it does seem like a much underrated programme.

Good choice TTH ABR ACA DAB RAR! Laughing

Mark:

Arrange the ten digits 0 to 9 in three arithmetical sums.

1+4 = 30/6 = 92-87 = 5 Cool

"Nice job mark"

Indeed it is…But are there THREE arithmetical sums….Like:

7 + 1 = 8 ...9 - 6 = 3 ...4 X 5 = 20

Although I must concede: 1+4 = 30/6 is brilliant! Razz

Aha! I misunderstood the problem. It's actually much easier than how I interpreted it:

1+7=8
9-6=3
4*5=20
