so 8-t= x/3 (2)

8=4x/9 => 72= 4x => x=18 miles

Don't let that simple answer hide some very clever calculations that went into that reply. Part of which I have as:

d= [4+x^2] ^ (1/2)

T= [(4+x^2) ^ (1/2)] /3 +(6-x) /5

(Bit of magic) =0. => 3/2 miles
