A little clarification if you please:

"…first person has to say a square"

"…first person must start with any positive number less than 15

Do you mean the first person restricted to: 1, 4, 9, to start?

In the first version, the first person must say a square (1, 4, 9, ..., 81) since the initial sum is zero and players must always add a square to the previous total.

In the second version, that restriction is removed for the first turn. It is replaced by the restriction that the first number must be less than 15.

not if another player turns up to add 16 and that would determine who wins Laughing Laughing
80+16=96
The rules didn't state the # of players.

Man only needs two things for all DIY activities. Duck tape and WD40.

If it moves and it shouldn't ... Duck tape.
If it doesn't move and it should ... WD40.

Stormy:

BL_.ND = blind spot Cool

That is just as good as; turn a blind eye.

BOTTL E= broken bottle Cool

Again; good thinking. I had Bottle party (part E)

Quack quack
Cluck cluck = foul language Cool

There is NEVER any need for: Embarrassed

This is all for fun. It is a proven fact that if you think in ways you have never thought before it will build up the neural pathways in the brain, and you will live longer and happier as a result. 2 Cents

That is just so sweet coming to my aid, and you are correct about the # of players. All can join in: Hey! We have started an on line gaming community. Cool

However, not in my wildest dreams could I imagine Mark adding 16; I want to prove man can beat machine:

Me: plus 9 = 89

"You were beat at 10"

You will do well to remember; the early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. Laughing

DIY Confused I don't know what that means. You wouldn't tape an aircraft wing with a duck would you Shocked Poor ducks (duct tape) Laughing

of course mark wouldn't because you would win. Hmm, only 11 left, so if mark adds 9 to your 89 then it is 98 and you have no choice but to add 1 leaving only 1 so mark wins. If I were mark I would make you sweat so, I wouldn't add the 9. I would add...........?

With only the #'s 9, 4 & 1 left, odds are mark will win. Sorry, but mark is smart enough to get the win (mark no pressure...........make him sweat and get the win) Laughing Laughing

That was a bold move.

89 + 9 = 98

In case you have something up your sleeve, note that I listed the allowable plays. They were the squares of the positive integers 1 through 9.

Yeah, I read your rules, and I intend to follow them to the letter.

98 + 4 = 102

Yes, it's in the rules! Laughing

I believe I've called you a tricky bastard before, and you certainly lived up to it. Laughing

I didn't see that one coming. Shocked
I guess it's a stalemate. Rolling Eyes

Perhaps you'd like to tackle the two problems with the following rule added: Neither player may push the total over 100. You've eliminated one number less than 15 Exclamation

I do believe you have and not without good reason. Laughing Laughing Laughing

That was no draw; as you said I was fried at 10. However, it is a great game: One more question; is it possible to limit the number of times the same number is called? Just curious.

Me: 14

It certainly is, but it may lead to draws (especially if 1 gets used up). On the other hand, forcing your opponent over 100 could be considered victory.

That would make analysis much more difficult - it's pretty simple with the rules that are in place.

14 won''t bag you a win, but if you wish to continue...
14 + 64 = 78
