[size=7]LCM of 7 and 17 is 119
So there are 120 if Pat counts Pat or Chris Counts Chris
12/17*119=84 (Pat) So Pat has 84 female friends
5/7*119=85 (Chris) So Chris has 85 female friends So Chris is male as Chris counts Pat.

There are 120 online, 85 Female, 35 Male. Chris is male and Pat female.

OK, I think this will work…

Try and Chris are gambling in Atlantic City. When asked to 'put their winnings together,' Try said that the product was "Nine factorial." Chris added that the sum was "Thirty-eight squared."

All I know is 38 squared = 1444
I don't understand your question. Are you saying that 9 has to go evenly into whatever each of their winnings are to add up to 1444?

You meant for Farmer Egli?
Here the break down

http://www.borge.diesal.de/a2k/math1.jpg

Rectangle FHDE: Lenght g , Hight h, also g*h =100. Which means the baseline of the triangle HCD ( 200) is 4g . If you name the baseline of the triangle (the vertical left) AGF as x*h, the hight of the triangle ABG (which has baseline 5g) as y*h, then the hight of the triangle FGH as baseline FH (x-y)*h. For the 2 unknown factors x und y is:

?AHF: g*x*h/2 = 300 + g*(x-y)*h/2

Eliminating the 2 equations (g*x*h/2 on both sides) results in (g*h=100): y = 6.

Therefore the area of the triangle ABG = 5g*y*h/2 = 1500.
results in ?ABF: 5g*x*h/2 = 300 + 1500 = 1800, and x = 7.2.

The blue area (volume = volume ?FBC - volume ?FGH) is
1800 - 1.2g*h/2 = 1740.

[size=8]PAINTERS
20/7 days (D doesn't contribute much)

TTH:
Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation: conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

One definition of score is twenty. Lincoln referred to an event that took place 87 years before his speech. Try's use of score is not as an arbitrary number of points.

A, B, C, and D are house painters. The team of A, B, and C can paint my house in 3 days; if A and D work as a pair it takes 6 days; the pair of C and D takes 8 days, and the team of B, C, and D can finish in 5 days.

20/7 hrs = 2 6/7 hrs
the solution will be left as an exercize to the grader

Let A = days A would take to paint the house himself,
B = days for B alone,
C = days for C alone,
and D = days for D alone.

Then A can do 1/A of the house in a day.
If A, B, and C take 3 days, then the fractions for one day give : (1/A) + (1/B) + (1/C) = 1/3 ;
letting small letters a, b, c, d replace 1/A, 1/B, 1/C, 1/D :
we get the linear system
{a + b + c = 1/3 ,
a + d = 1/6 ;
c + d = 1/8 ;
b + c + d = 1/5}.

The solution is :

a = 3/20 , b = 3/40 , c = 13/120 , d =1/60 ;
so that all four together would paint a + b + c + d = 7/20 of the house in a day; it would take 20 / 7 days which is 2 and 6/7 days.
This is 2 days, 20 hours, 34 minutes and change.

BAD BAD Question

RR Question

As you folks know things have been pretty tight down at the ranch, which forced me to sell our sheep milk down at the roadside from ten-quart cans. So you can imagine my embarrassment when Mark and Thoh drove up and each asked for two quarts of milk.

One had a five-quart pail and the other had a four-quart pail.
I had only two ten-quart cans, each full of milk.

How did we measure out exactly two quarts of milk, for each Question

Oh, and what's the smallest number of pourings needed Question

And does my butt look big in these coveralls Question

I am very sorry to hear that 22 people, including the suspected gunman, were killed and many others were wounded at a shooting rampage at Virginia Tech university. Sad
