Dadpad:
Ball disc ring........ ball Cool

The ball will reach the bottom first, because it has less mass on the outside.

speed of sound is constant Cool

The speed of sound coming from a police siren is the same weather or not the siren is standing still or moving.

wine glasses.....thick one is more likely to crack. something to do with heat differential and expansion. Cool

Nice one mate. Well, nice three actually. Razz

Ralpheb:
Sound will still travel at the same speed no matter how fast the object producing the noise is traveling. Cool

Legally married:
his age 7^2 = 49 Cool
her age 4*9 = 36 Cool
Daughters age = 9 Cool

Still legal
Him 8^2=64
her 6*4 =24
dau 2+4= 6

Interesting

Number/digits

"All the digits are different and add up to 12."

Mark:
DIGITS
1, 4, and 7 Cool Cool Cool

abc 100a + 10b + c

a + b + c = 12

a - b = b - c

a > b + c

a + b + c = 12

-a + 2b -/+ c = 0/3b = 12

b = 4

a + c = 8

8 - c > 4 + c

4 > 2c

c < 2

abc is odd numbered so the digit "c" must be odd.

Hence c = 1, a = 7 and b = 4

DIGIT IS NUMBER 741

Thank you Mark, you at least reed engerlish proper goodly. Laughing

Ralph is sailing a plastic boat in his bathtub. The boat is loaded with nuts, bolts and washers. If Ralph dumps all these items into the water. allowing his boat to float empty, will the water level in the bath rise or fall Question

When an airliner is flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet, the temperature of the air outside may be as low as -30ºF. One might think that this would require the use of heaters inside the cabin, but in fact, an aircraft flying this high must use air-conditioners. Why Question

It is generally accepted that matter expands with increasing temperature, and contracts with decreasing temperature. There is one notable exception. Shocked

What is it Question
Why has nature provided for it Question

fall

AIRLINER
low density air (approaching vacuum) acts as a good insulator not allowing heat of plane to be dissipated?

EXPANSION
ice - to threaten ships with icebergs that would otherwise sink

Tub: Water level would rise because of added objects.

Airplane: The friction created by the speed would increase the heat. Planes during WWII were cold because they were not raveling as fast)

expansion: only thing I can think of is ice. Damned if I know why

expansion: If water expanded during heat, then plants would explode when they got warm/

The boat..............water will fall. The cargo will push the boat further into the water displacing not only the volume of the cargo but also the volume of the air in the cargo hold. if the cargo is allowed to sink it no longer displaces the air in the hold

airplane....... closer to sun = more heat (thinner atmosphere)
body heat of 300 people
friction
heat generated by engines warms air slightly

matter expands....water expands with decreasing temp below apprx 3 degrees C. why? .... to piss me off with the frost damage it does to my spotted gums.
water in plant tissue turns to ice and expands thus causing plant cells to explode/rupture.

RALPH IN THE TUB (shudder) Laughing
fall Cool

The level will fall: the metal in the boat forces the boat to sink lower in the water, displacing water not only for the bolts, but for the air in the hull at water level. if the bolts are allowed to sink, they displace less volume than they did in the boat

AIRLINER
low density air (approaching vacuum) acts as a good insulator not allowing heat of plane to be dissipated? Cool

The air conditioners are needed to cool off the cabin because the body heat of every body in the plane. The o-zone layer at the high altitude less affects the U.V. rays striking the fuselage. Also, the friction generated as the plane rips trough the air at 600 knots does more to heat the plane than cool it.(try going down into the cargo hold in a 747 at 30,000 feet and see if you want to stay there for long).

EXPANSION
ice - to threaten ships with icebergs that would otherwise sink. Cool

Water expands below 3.98°C down to 0°C Otherwise ice would be heavier than water, with catastrophic consequences. Lakes and ocean's would freeze from the bottom up killing all life.

PIPES
10h 40m Cool

Code:

Let V= volume of water in pond
Let P = volume drained by one large pipe in one hour
Let p = volume drianed by one small pipe in one hour
Let t = time

V - 9P*8 = 0 V-6*p*(16) = 0
+(-V+6p*16 = 0) V = 6*p*16
-9P*8+6p*16 = 0

9P*8 = 6p*16 V-3(P)(t)-5(p)(t) = 0
P = 1.33p --------------> 6p*16-3(1.33p)(t)-5(p)(t) = 0
96p-4pt-5pt = 0
96p = 9pt
t = (96p)/(9p)
t = 10.667 hrs = 10 hrs 40 min

WATCH
no change (guess)

EGG
heat/cool the water as appropriate (think Galileo thermometer)

ICE CUBE
stays the same - the ice cube displaces its weight in water, so does the water it eventually turns into, and they weigh the same

Ice in the beaker: Water level will fall. The Ice takes up more space than the water. This can be seen when people melt snow(ice) for water and the amount af water that is in the cup will be less that the amount of ice(snow).
