Two convicts M* and W* (names withheld to protect the guilty) are locked in a cell. There is an unbarred window high up in the cell. No matter if they stand on the bed or one on top of the other they can't reach the window to escape.

They then decide to tunnel out. However, they give up with the
tunnelling because it will take too long. Finally one of the convicts figures out how to escape from the cell.

What is his or her plan Question

Mark:

YARD SALE II
16c (add 5c to odd numbers, 6c to even numbers) Cool

"I like my first answer better."

Now I ask you, where would we be if everyone were allowed to choose his or her own answer? Yes! Anarchy, that is where.

However, in this instance you are right. From this time henceforth the answer to YARD SALE 1 will be:
19c (1c per stroke) Laughing

CONVICTS
Depending on how far they got into the tunnelling, stand one on the other on the pile of debris. Cool

DELTAHEDRON
14 faces Cool and 21 edges Cool

Euler's Law for solids states that number of
Faces + Vertices - Edges = 2
In this case there are 9 vertices so, F + 9 - E = 2
If there are f faces then, there must be 3f /2 edges.
(Which means there must be an even number of faces)
So f + 9 - 3f /2 = 2
f = 14 => There are 14 faces.
(Thank you Mark for the reference to Euler)

When Mark was a child, he wanted to buy his mother 3 red roses for her birthday. He decided to start saving on the first day of the month. On the first day, he put one cent in his piggy bank, on the second day he put two cents, on the third day three cents and so on. By the day of her birthday, he had saved up $3.00--exactly the correct amount to buy the three red roses. (Kinda cute)

What day was her birthday Question

to prove im not just copying mark, heres the work...
14x8=112 - this is the original number that she divided by 8
112x8=896, woohoo, we're done with the first one

the second one was a tad bit harder:
2/3 X=forward steps 1/3 X=backward
(2/3 X) - (1/3 X)=20....this would be a common mistake
but you must know that the 2/3 comes FIRST, so you know that is wrong and that 20 paces is the distance you are trying to go so you take the numbers and start counting "+2,-1,+2,-1" until you get to 20. you will then notice that your answer ended on a "+2." so you count the 2's and if u passed kindergarten you will get 19 for the 2's and 18 for the 1's. multiply 19 by 2 and subtract the 18 from the answer and sure enough the answer is 20!!! yay!

BUT
If she really does have the habit of taking 1 step back for EVERY 2 steps, in theory she MUST take 1 step back for the 2 steps she just took. giving us 19!!! if this is really the case and her habit is that serious, then she must take 1 more step forward, and since every 1 step back ONLY comes with 2 steps forward, then the REAL answer is:::

39 steps forward, 19 steps backward, giving us a total of 58 steps
