So, just divide 30 by 2 to get 15 handshakes. Another approach: The first person shakes hands with 5 people, the next person, 4 people, and so on. So, 5+4+3+2+1=15 handshakes.

A most interesting total. I could only manage 65 by brute force. The only question I would raise is; Are all the shapes unique? DCBA in any combination is the same as ABCD.

I have just noticed:

Carter fenced in a rectangular plot of land and then divided it into two halves by putting another fence along the main diagonal. This diagonal fence measured 41 metres exactly.

Dale also fenced in a rectangular plot of land in a similar way (including the diagonal fence) but his rectangle was one-third greater in area than Carter's plot and used less fencing.

In both plots, all the dimensions (lengths, widths and diagonals) were a whole number of metres.

Use the ten digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and use each digit once and once only.

Divide the ten digits into two groups of five, and then arrange the digits in each group of five to make a multiplication sum.

It could be done like this
0, 1, 5, 6, 9 used to make 106 x 59 (which is 6254)
2, 3, 4, 7, 8 used to make 437 x 82 (which is 35834)
and the two multiplication sums have different answers.


Can you find a way that makes the answers to both multiplication sums the same for:

a) Smallest Question

b) Largest Question

Surely you mean product instead of sum.

Can each group be divided into more than two subgroups? For instance, is
10*6*59
3*47*8*2
valid (although not correct)?

Assuming the answer is no,
