Quote:
'A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets, some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish.'
-W. H. Auden

Jjorge, sounds like a lovely plan. Early retirement in a place that you find attractive and relatives already in place. Also, stress just isn't worth putting up with if you are able to leave.

Good luck and don't forget photos!

Here are two quotes; one is serious, the other divine--both are true.

Quote:
It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets. --Voltaire

Quote:
I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music. -- George Eliot

"The greater the state, the more wrong and cruel its patriotism, and the greater is the sum of suffering upon which its power is founded." Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910)

Jjorge -- I like the Auden quote -- I like Auden a lot! Thanks for sending it over.

Also, thanks for adding quotes, Diane... good uns, too, especially, that last. I am a confirmed shower singer -- I think it is good for the lungs.

Here are few others that Mr.P sent to me this week:

"Protecting the rights of even the least individual among us is basically the only excuse the government has for even existing."
Ronald Reagan (1911- 2004)
Piffka note -- He was probably thinking of fetuses, not hurricane victims.

"The supernatural is the natural not yet understood." Elbert Hubbard (1859-1915)
I like this one a lot.

"Peace hath higher tests of manhood than battle ever knew." John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)
This one might be the best of the lot.

Thank you.

Peculiar does make ya think...

Good to see you McTag! My sister just returned from 2 glorious weeks in Scotland with extra time in the Kingdom of Fife per my recommendation from something long remembered that you said. My family are fast becoming confirmed Scotophiles.

Gosh, someone remembered something I once said.
I'm humbled.
Yes, Fife sure is nice: Elie, Crail, Pittenweem, Anstruther...

Edna is wonderful.

She can sound like ED one moment and like Dorothy Parker the next.

PS

My neighbor, a Scot from Aberdeenshire, just got back from a little vacation there. He dropped over to chat on Sunday, carrying a couple of cans of a Scottish 'draft' ale.

Ver-r-r-r-y gud stuff!
I can't remember the name...the can was brown and tan.

Of course, I always remember what you've said, McT, you silly old bear. Don't be humbled! Their descriptions and their photographs of Fife make me want to go again and you can bet we'll be spending more time in Fife! My sis also stayed at a place called the Kinlochmoidart Estate just above the Isle of Mull... a gorgeous place.

Hi Jjorge -- well, you KNOW how much I like ESVM. Sounds like you've got a good neighbor! My sister (properly cued as to what to look for by me) brought me back a bottle of Cellar 13 from the Men of Tain. It will be saved for a happy Christmas.

"The gods did not reveal from the beginning
All things to us; but in the course of time
Through seeking, men found that which is better.

But as for certain truth, no man has known it,
Nor will he know it; neither of the gods,
Nor yet of all the things of which I speak.
And even if by chance he were to utter
The final truth, he would himself not know it;
For all is but a woven web of guesses."

- Xenophanes (c.570-480 BCE)

"...I see through your eyes, and I see through your brain
Like I see through the water that runs down my drain
You fasten the triggers for the others to fire
Then you set back and watch when the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion as young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies and is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear that can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children into the world
For threatening my baby unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood that runs in your veins"

-Bob Dylan (Robert Allan Zimmerman 1941- ), Masters of War

Anybody see the Martin Scorsese film on Dylan?

Yeh I seen it.

I recorded the second one, last night. Very good. I had no idea how prolific he was. Astonishing.

I was too sleepy and didn't see the Dylan show, only heard about it from Mr.P, so I ordered it from Amazon to watch when it is convenient. Looking forward to that shipment!

Dylan

I ain't lookin' to compete with you,
Beat or cheat or mistreat you,
Simplify you, classify you,
Deny, defy or crucify you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

No, and I ain't lookin' to fight with you,
Frighten you or uptighten you,
Drag you down or drain you down,
Chain you down or bring you down.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I ain't lookin' to block you up
Shock or knock or lock you up,
Analyze you, categorize you,
Finalize you or advertise you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to straight-face you,
Race or chase you, track or trace you,
Or disgrace you or displace you,
Or define you or confine you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to meet your kin,
Make you spin or do you in,
Or select you or dissect you,
Or inspect you or reject you.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

I don't want to fake you out,
Take or shake or forsake you out,
I ain't lookin' for you to feel like me,
See like me or be like me.
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you.

Nice, McTag... Here's one of my favorite Dylan songs. There are so many to choose from:

Winterlude, Winterlude, oh darlin',
Winterlude by the road tonight.
Tonight there will be no quarrelin',
Ev'rything is gonna be all right.
Oh, I see by the angel beside me
That love has a reason to shine.
You're the one I adore, come over here and give me more,
Then Winterlude, this dude thinks you're fine.

Winterlude, Winterlude, my little apple,
Winterlude by the corn in the field,
Winterlude, let's go down to the chapel,
Then come back and cook up a meal.
Well, come out when the skating rink glistens
By the sun, near the old crossroads sign.
The snow is so cold, but our love can be bold,
Winterlude, don't be rude, please be mine.

Winterlude, Winterlude, my little daisy,
Winterlude by the telephone wire,
Winterlude, it's makin' me lazy,
Come on, sit by the logs in the fire.
The moonlight reflects from the window
Where the snowflakes, they cover the sand.
Come out tonight, ev'rything will be tight,
Winterlude, this dude thinks you're grand.
