yes
I agree that those who know the most say the least.

But it's hard to bridge a gap with silence. However more often than not talking just makes the gap wider and deeper.

It's a pickle indeed. Have to learn to like either solitude or hypocrisy.

Or I suppose self control could be a good third choice. Nice if you can.

I am sorry not to leave you alone, unfortunately I have computer access at work...and a bit of time today...and lots of things gnawing at me, talking helps...

I heard it put another way, a person who is at peace with himself is able to be silent...

And really quoting...is a little like well bible quoting...calling in an authoritative third party to bridge the gap, something the two Adversaries can both yield to....

I had one more thought...about the place I want to be...

I want to know a person pretty intimately, what it is that makes them different from all other people...

And I want to be known the same way.

And I want to be glad about who they are...and vice versa...

And really...this is very greedy...but I want that relationship with every person I meet...ridiculous of course, but that's what I WANT inside...

I think...and I see it here at A2K....there is a silent understanding that grows between people because of something that happens not necessarily logically but more of an emotional response...

I think the secret is to be able to make that connection intentionally...

And then you do not have to say so much, you have too much respect for them...plus you know they already know what matters most...

And you can just communicate about small things that no one gets too upset about...

It's sort of "walk by faith" but it's more like believing in people than believing in "god"...

Believing they are smarter and kinder than they seem.

Well...I do like your thread and apologize a little for so much intrusion on it today.

"In the natural world ignorance is visited as sharply as willful disobedience; incapacity meets the same punishment as crime. Nature's discipline is not even a word and a blow and the blow first, but the blow without the word. It is left for the sufferer to find out why the blow was given."

Thomas H. Huxley (1825-1895)

Smile I liked that one a lot, too.

Here's today's:

"Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in
it."

I saw something somewhere about the difference between hacks and geniuses, the geniuses steal all the time, I must be one...

I go looking for bright shiny stuff and take it...my real name means raven.

It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong.

That's Voltaire.

I was a Pol Sci major so long ago...interesting subject though...how one group tries to wield power over another...a pox on both their souls...but that's no good either...

Hi Shunammite... nice photo... I looked at your website so I know you're the pretty, dark-haired lady in the middle. Is that your family? A good-looking bunch.

Mr. Piffka, for a cynical old guy (you're about my age, don't take offense, lol), YOU REALLY KNOW HOW TO SLATHER IT ON, lol...

I think there's some verses about how bad flattery is in the Bible...it's a dirty trick to keep us from getting out of jail/hell and collecting our $200 bucks...flattery...if you can seem "real" when you do it...will work miracles...we are all so hungry for affirmation...

Oh man I work for a lawyer...just recently went back to work after 25 years as a housewife...and he has the greatest poster in the bathroom, Murphey's Laws on Justice...I put it on my website a while back, typed the whole thing out...

Have to pick a couple of juicy ones for your thread...

Here's one from Luther though, "This world is not a place where justice resides."

It dangles above our heads luring us to our doom, that's what I think...a mirage...

Thank you for MAKING MY DAY, lol...yes it is my family including my daughter in law...who is pregnant...and I'll be a grandma for the first time in Oct...

Miracles every day...good and bad...but it's all good, I hope.

Here are five from the Murphey's Law on Justice poster, I tried to find that thing online and never could:

The side that wins is not always the best

If truth were a matter of opinion, the majority would always be right.

The whole of life is futile unless you see it as a sporting proposition.

The secret of success is sincerity. Once you can fake that you've got it made.

If you want to make people angry, lie. If you want to make them absolutely livid with rage, tell them the truth.

The boldfaced one is the one that came as the biggest shock to me, it is SO TRUE....

So it's kind of hard to win...*wry face*

Shunammite -- The Murphy Laws on Justice sound interesting -- here's the Murphy Law's website but there's nothing on Justice, I noticed.

A quote from the Washington Post this a.m.:

Quote:
Bob Jones III denounced Ronald Reagan as "a traitor to God's people" for the sin of choosing as his vice president George H.W. Bush, whom Jones called "a devil."

"O! say, does that star-spangled Banner yet wave,
O'er the Land of the free and the home of the brave?"

- Francis Scott Key (1779-1843), Defence of Fort M'Henry

(Ed. note: I have always loved this above all other national anthems because it asks a question. When I was a boy at the Twins' baseball stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota, I thought the question was in the first line - was the flag still waving? Now, the flag waves on, but the second line haunts me, because I hate the answers I keep coming up with every time I think about it - are we free? - and, are we brave?)
