"Whether we and our politicians know it or not, Nature is party to all our deals and decisions, and she has more votes, a longer memory, and a sterner sense of justice than we do."

"The way to use weapons is to carry out operations only after having first determined your strategy.
"Carefully examine the patterns of the climate and terrain, and look into the hearts of the people.
"Train in the use of military equipment, make patterns of rewards and punishments clear, observe the strategy of opponents, watch out for dangerous passes enroute, distinguish places of safety and danger, find out the conditions of both sides, be aware of when to advance and when to withdraw, adapt to the timing of circumstances, set up defensive measures while strengthening your attack force, promote soldiers for their ability, draw up plans for success, consider the matter of life and death.
"Only when you have done all this can you send forth armies entrusted to generals that will reach out with the power to capture opponents."

- Zhuge Liang (181-234)

(Ed. note: Gee, that sure seems like a lot of work - why don't we just send the boys over there, blow **** up and spend money?)

Piff, Eisenhower is a better Democrat than anyone I can think of in today's political scene--well, maybe with the exception of Kucinich.

"If God lived on earth, people would knock out his windows."

Yiddish aphorism

I like that Simonson quote, Diane. Thanks, I'll pass it on.

hello all...

That is actually very "biblical"....

As in water face answers to face, so the heart of man to man, Prov 27:19.

We all with open faces beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord, II Cor 3:18.

He that despiseth, despiseth not man but God, I Thess 4:8.

Just when I thought I was severed from humanity...I read through this thread ....and felt encouraged...

Another great quote buried back there:

"Only the very rarest of princes can endure even a little criticism, and few of them can put up with even a pause in the adulation."

- Walter Lippmann (1889-1974)

So true so true so true..

And the one attributed to me about handling the other person's faith gently, I took that from someone's signature...it is good...but hard to "obey"...the only way to be gentle is not to say what you mean and then you remain separated...

So just go right ahead and stab them with your Sword and get it over with...the longest sword wins.

do I have to put something here?
Three from Elbert Hubbard...he went down on the Titanic, btw:

"The Great Man is a man who lives a long way off." - in The Philistine

"Never explain - your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway." - The Note Book

"An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness." - The Note Book

And I wonder if that second one is really all his, I've heard it before, said it myself, and wondered who the source was...so true, so true...

"Nothing whatever but the constitutional law, the political structure, of these United States protects any American from arbitrary seizure of his property and his person, from the Gestapo and the Storm Troops, from the concentration camp, the torture chamber, the revolver at the back of his neck in a cellar."

Rose Wilder Lane (1886-1968)

Morning Diane... what fun to pack with such an adventure before you.

Shunamite -- Welcome to a2k and thank you for the additions to this quote thread. I don't recall a specific quote that is attributed to you. Tried to search for it and couldn't. Would you point me there? Thanks.

Shunnamite just posted this...I love it.

Treat the other man's faith gently; it is all he has to believe with. His mind was created for his own thoughts, not yours or mine. ~~Henry S. Haskins

On page 52. I didn't get credit for the quote itself but for posting it...which I did, I forget which forum, Marriage/relationship maybe...but didn't want to take credit even for that, it was someone's sig, and again I don't remember who...but a great quote...

And what a wonderful thread, could put all the shrinks out of business you can quote me, lol...

I'm afraid I'm the culprit. I ascribed the quote to Shuna when it was Bella Dea's signature.
