what is the significance of the phrase "cellar door"? why was it chosen as the most beautiful phrase or whatever in the english language? is their a certain answer?
There is no significance. According to a very little research via Google, Poe (or somebody) said that "cellar door" was the most beautiful phrase in the English language. Then Tolkein (or somebody) agreed. Somehow, it got repeated in the movie Donnie Darko, which is either incredibly deep or incredibly stupid, or both.
So somebody said it once, that's all. If you think it's a beautiful phrase, that's nice.
Hmmm. I thought that it was Mencken. I think it had something to do with the fact that some Frenchman thought the sound was beautiful. I'll have to check.
Yep, it was Mencken, but the person who liked the sound of it was a Chinese lad.
