I am confused. A court ruling about a woman's butt on TV back in 2003 is still news, but I've seen commercials recently for vibrators on TNT well before 10pm. I was watching with my 12 year old granddaughter and was waiting for the question, What is that for? I would have referred her to her mother of course.
Anyone else seen those commercials and wonder why they are on TV?
I am a pretty liberal guy and am all for little or no censorship, but vibrator commercials? What's next flavored condom commercials?

@IRFRANK,
Those are just pacifiers for the rich, honey... If their brains are vibrated they think they are thinking...
@joefromchicago,
You obviously don't have a granddaughter.
Oh for Chrissake . . . there's nothing indecent about that vibrator ad. I suspect that the only people getting worked up over this are people suffereing from an excess of Protestantism. Trojan has been running jokey radio ads for years and years--and as the case with the vibrator ads, if you don't alreay know what's going on, there's no way to tell from the ads. Get a grip, people.
@IRFRANK,
You're right: I don't have a granddaughter.
I still find that commercial horrifying.
Jesus - no wonder people think Americans are idiots.
Who acts like those women?
Remember when there was concern over tampon ads? I distinctly remember a thread about that. So what, now the vibrator market has become so competitive vibrator companies need to advertise on network prime-time tv to corner the market?
How utterly ridiculous. If I were a little girl watching that, I'd be like, 'Oh God - please don't let me grow up to be someone who would sit around with a group of squealing women and talk about pleasuring myself - much less marry an idiot who'd yell 'SWEET' and punch the air because I got three machines at my wedding shower to make his job...what? Easier, more quickly and efficiently accomplished, less hands-on...whatever.
If I were a kid, I'd think those adults looked, talked, and acted like morons.
Obscenity and indecency laws are bullshit. They are simply personal preferences turned into laws. No physical injury occurs from violating someone's personal preference. We don't need laws to prevent "hurt feelings" and "moral outrage".

Sure, why not? There's nothing wrong with sex at all and no reason that it shouldn't be shown on TV.

I think our kids would probably be a lot better off if sex were treated less like a taboo and more like a natural part of life.

I think that if you want your children not to watch certain things, you should monitor what they watch.
However, the Disney Channel isn't going to start playing violent pornography even if suddenly there were no laws against it. Disney is catering to a specific market and if it wants to continue making money that way then it will have to bend to the will of their customers, i.e. parents that want their kids to watch kid shows, not porn.

Procreation is natural. Dressing head-to-toe in latex and defecating on a midget isn't. Do you think kids should watch that too?
Not all pornography is created equal.

Sure it is. Things that humans do are by definition 'natural behavior.' Maybe it isn't
typical, but so what? Sexuality comes in a lot of different flavors.

No, but that's not my concern at all. It is the concern of those who have kids.

True; some is a lot better than others. Not every video can be as good as
Midget Shitters 7: Revenge of the Ookie Wookies.

That would include rape and murder too then.

What about pedophilia films?
Those are against the law for reasons having nothing to do with indecency at all. Not relevant to our current conversation.
Quote:What about snuff films?
See above.
Quote: What about BDSM films?
Sure, why not? People like being tied up and abused in various ways. People like watching it. It's a normal thing.
Quote:Would you consider these to be normal?
This isn't relevant to our current conversation. With the exception of the BDSM, I think you are Appealing to Extremes here.

Yes, those are natural behaviors. I don't know who you think suggested they aren't.
Not only that, we see murders - simulated ones, at least - on TV constantly.

Well it seems like you're arguing that we shouldn't treat things as taboo if they are natural. You also claim that everything humans do is natural. Therefore, nothing humans do should be treated as taboo. Correct me if I'm wrong and that's not what you're arguing.
If it is though, I disagree. I think rape and murder should definitely be treated as taboo.
