Well, two of the children would never play again; and if the others played, they would have to play a sedentary game, one of those games that crippled children play pathetically forever.

Look up "sedentary" and "pathetic". Then try to rephrase the sentence for further comment on your effort.

Looks like there was an accident or incident, leaving two children dead and others badly injured, injured so badly that they would probably not regain full mobility.
