The genes for the alternative system proteins, factor H
[35] and factor B = the genes (factor H and factor B) that work for the alternative system proteins?

Context:

In contrast to familial HUS that is triggered by acute injury, AMD
is caused by a build-up of chronic debris on the retina that normally
should be cleared by complement.Such debris, seen in the retina as
‘drusen’, can include urate as in gout, lipids or proteins as in Alz-
heimer’s disease, or pigments as in spontaneous AMD: thus
‘garbage’ and/or injury leading to an ‘altered self” protein is
contributory. The genes for the alternative system proteins, factor H
[35] and factor B
, as well as C3 are associated with AMD.
