Context:

IPEX is due to inheritance of a mutationally disrupted X-linked gene for the transcription factor FOXP3 [11]. FOXP3 is required for the function of natural (thymus-derived) regulatory T cells (nTregs) (Troy Togerson, University of Washington, Seattle, WA) that develop in the thymus from whence they migrate to the periphery to maintain peripheral tolerance, so protecting the host from effects of autoaggressive or exuberantly reactive T lymphocytes [12]. Mutation is a regular aspect of evolution. Mutation occurs randomly either from error, environment, chemicals, diet, lifestyle, etc. It means the gene in the X chromosome has been affected by mutation.

Oops! I've misread the word "mutationally" as another word.
