I am a 58 year old female who recently had major back surgery to correct my scoliosis (62 degree curve). My bones are so soft in the lumbar area of my spine that the surgeon had to use wires to secure the rods. I also had one fractured vertebrae.
My surgeon referred me to an endocrinologist so I can begin taking Forteo. How do the docs decide if you are a candidate for the drug?

Sometimes it depends on if the drug company is offering an expense paid trip to Hawaii for writing a certain number of prescriptions. I would suggest if you are unsure that you get a second opinion and look into the side effects to make sure you think it will be worth it in both the best and worst case scenarios.
