Bloody Benny was around still.
Had crosses carved in the trees near the archery range to keep him at bay.
Fang was also a concern. (the snapping turtle down at the lake that used to visit every now and then when not vacationing on shrub island)
Bloody Benny.
Hmm.
Bet he's disappointed about the condos.
Could make for a decent sequel to a cheesy horror movie I bet.

I just found this site and noticed you guys talking about the CJ and Bloody Benny. When were you at Namequoit. I was there 1977-1984. Only now do I realize how special the camp was - location, tradition, and just a great place to sail. Now its all condos and that's really a shame. Wonder if Mr. Farnham is still around.

Could've been Walgreen's.
Remember CJ (the boat)?

I remember the CJ, a wooden gaff rigged cat boat with a fiberglass bottom and a wheel at the back. I remember making a midnight run or two in her also. By the way, Namequoit is not condos, it is now 6 luxary homes. That's more fitting.

There's always Monomoy/Wono Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster. I was also at Namequoit from 1968 through 1974. Those were good times that will never be repeated.

CCSC is cool. I went for just a long-weekend at the end of 6th grade and liked it a lot.

I went to Namequoit too
Just was thinking about it this morning, as it was my first taste of sailing, something I've really grown to love. I went in 1985, cabin N, was kind of out of place as a poor Maryland kid amongst the Boston bluebloods. I made some good friends though and had a great time. The CJ was the slowest sailboat I have ever seen. What was the girls' camp nearby that we had a dance together with?

The main thing is that I get to see Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower again. What a wonderful sense of history that rock is.

Joanne - are you headed up this way?

I went to the cape last weekend and walked/hiked with my parents at Great Island in Wellfleet. This is protected national seashore territory and was the site of a town long since washed away. There was a flourishing native population (Wampanoag -sp?) there as well.

The trail was 6-8 miles long (estimates vary as often they do). The Tavern Loop adds the almost 2 mile difference if you chose to walk it. The walk starts in the pitch pine forests on an old, unpaved access road. You then come to a narrow way between marsh and sand dune. Back up into the stunted pine forest and back out to marsh/sand again. At the end you have the option of heading out to a low spit, called Jeremy's Point, that you have to time with the tide so as not to get stranded. The way back is either through the hills or along the beach. We took the beach.

I've done that walk before (probably 10 years ago)
It's a nice one.

Wellfleet is one of my favorite towns on the Cape town. A friend of mine has a vacation place there....wish I did.

wellfleet
I spent a glorious summer camping between Race Point and Herring Cove and we would go into Wellfleet and use the public showers on the dock. If the weather got really bad we'd come back to Wellfleet and spend the night on a friend's boat.

Not to mention that I set up at the Wellfleet Flea Market every Sunday for about 10 years.

Trip to Wellfleet a must when I return to the mainland for a visit.

Littlek;

Just saw your post on Cape Cod. When I was a young fellow my Grandfater and Grandmother, my aunt and uncle plus my two cousins all lived in Onset the beginning of the Cape.

Every summer I would go and stay with them in Onset,at Maple Street. It was alittle crowed but very loving.

I shall always think kindly of the Cape for its was through the people that I learned of friendship , kindness and love.

jjorge - I love wellfleet too!

Seaglass, what 10 years did you have a table at the flea market? I love that place too! My parents live down the street in N Eastham.

Joe Harris - memories like that are what makes life worth living!
