This could be normal protection for a President when traveling to a potentially dangerous place - one where he would be a potential target.

I am less concerned about the security and more concerned about the "Why is this trip necessary?" Is this trip worth the huge cost to the American people when the economy is so poor.

The large amount was from a Republican statement about Obama, and is not true.

BTW, the Secret Service does not reveal the president's entourage, so no one could know it's size and costs.

The Navy has denied that statement's ship numbers is accurate.

I figured it was overstated - this actually did not come from a Republican statement (as they would know that such information cannot be provided in detail), but it came from the India media.

Part of the trip also includes visiting other Asian places from my understanding and to Korea for a summit.

Personally I'd prefer the President to not travel all over unless necessary (like a summit) - expensive and opens up to potential security problems.
