@zhanglizoe,
If there is, it isn't widely known but as a turn of phrase it does the job nicely.

This is an excessively vague notion.

Exactly... Who is a fair judge of culture??? Socrates judging the culture captured in the Illiad, and his own culture expressed in its institutions judged it badly and thought he could do better... But we are not gifted with perspective... Culture as knowledge is our perspective; so people have a terrible abusive tendency to judge other cultures as garbage based upon their own cultural perspective without the understanding essential to judge anything.... There are things I don't like about some cultures, and only because I find them counterproductive to their ultimate goal of survival... But that narrow vision does not give me any firm ground for judgement of their culture as a whole... If I say of black people that I do not like their culture, then what is their common culture??? Because they were torn out of their culture which one must presume valued them and gave them a place, a meaning, but that has now been lost... What they may have is only a remnant, a rebuild, or a hadgepodge of slave culture and European culture... So what are we judging???

I don't know of a word per se, but I think he means, as an example, hello kitty in Japan. It's kind of a vacuous cultural thing.

@Ceili,
Hello Kitty is NOT vacuous!

Hello Kitty is Plato's idealistic definition of the Philosopher King ... sorry I meant Philosopher Queen!

@tsarstepan,
Alrighty then. How about a nation basing it's cultural worth on a cup of coffee and a doughnut?
