Anyone besides me found themselves in Southwest Asia for this glorified field trip?

I was in basic training and AIT at Fort Sill, Oklahoma at this stage of the war.

When the 1st Armored Division general volunteered his division sometime in the winter of 1990. Being stationed at the Pindar Barracks, Zirndorf, Germany at A2/1 FA, we were deployed to the Saudi Arabia on December 31, 1990.

Twenty years ago, basic at Gordon in Georgia was neither a fond memory nor a good joke.

I definitely don't have fond memories of Fort Sill, OK or the drill sergeants therein.

Did you know that drill sergeants/drill instructors/basic training platoon sergeants are all there because they volunteered? Tells you something about human nature, in my opinion.

I guess it's telling something about their personalities. Their over the top personas and work temperament serve a purpose but I doubt I'd find one as a drinking buddy.
