I have talked before about "the inescapable place" dream, consider that in relation to the giant door...

...the anticipatory effects of escapism...

Perhaps the "giant doors" (which are almost always open) may be expressions of escapist feelings: i.e., let's leave here for some better place.

On my many travels, I find the photographing of doors as an attraction that doesn't seem to have any more than artistic value - like the differences in architectural styles.

If it were Freudian and having to do with escape, it would be more likely Mother's Arms, breasts or Labia, if sublimated well, the same of an age appropriate or mother substitute woman. I'm not saying that's what it is, but just that's what Freud would have claimed in his day.

Since "most" churches have huge doors, those passing them on a regular basis must get some freudian comfort from them.
