@Caroline,
My mom saw Van Gogh's paintings once at an art exhibit she said she was apprehensive about going to the exhibit because he was an impressionist and realism was en vogue mostly. After attending the exhibit she said she had never seen so much radiant color in her entire life. She was a fan of Van Gogh her entire life after viewing the exhibit. Smile

Same as Red, I thought I wouldn't be that impressed by the sunflowers but I stood in awe of it, so much vibrancy and colour, it was awesome.

My question is, what is it that makes a person remembered? Who are the people who you remember and who would you rather forget and why?

Why are people with negative lives remembered? Bandits, train and bank robbers, dictators, philosophers, philanthropists...

What accomplishments in someone's life allows them to enter though the giant door and what makes a person fall out of favor and be expelled from historical remembrance?

The giant door is where giants enter. What makes a person a giant among their peers?

Some people have been sought during their lives and nearly wiped from the pages of time only to later become saints after they are gone.

Some enter, some exit this giant door of posterity....
Usually your subconciousness will make you remember what one should avoid.

@RexRed,
People who wake up strong feelings in others will be remembered, be it from something or someone that is beautiful, or those who accomplish or invent great world-changing things or events. Horror is often remembered, too.

@Pemerson,
Here is my latest contribution to the world. Original song set to photos of the current state of the earth.. I have been editing it for the last three days. Maybe it will touch people's hearts and the giant (green) door will open up and let me enter for a while. Smile

@Caroline,
Thank you Caroline for your compliments Smile I feel like I need to do something with my art that has a lasting meaning. So many songs are simply forgotten, I like to think that love is what makes a song remembered.... In this case, love for the earth and its inhabitants.

I see no comparison at all to Hitler in our current president but I do see a comparison in the mentality of current right wing obstructionist parties. I think the conservative right is still struggling with racism (as Hitler certainly did) in this country and that is the reason I steer clear from their politics these days. They hate Mexican immigration and amnesty (just as Hitler hated non Arians), they hate entitlement programs for the poor (and what did Hitler do for the poor in general?) they hate our black president (ten minutes of Fox News brings that message home) and they organize their racist tea party to attack a black woman in agriculture... they call out slurs against elected blacks, females, and homosexual senators and representatives. Hitler is alive and well in the republican and tea parties these days...

I cherish racial and sexual equality and when I consider the right wing parties, they are just not there on the same page.

@RexRed,
i wasn't trying to make any comparisons either way, i was simply commenting on horror becoming famous as often if not more so than any other archetype

you'll see more comparisons between people and horrific figures than you will decent folk

people remember evil

after jesus, judas is probably the most recognizable person in the new testament (ask the average person who denied jesus and who betrayed him and see which question gets answered first)

even in fiction, take star wars, i'm wiling to guess that if you asked people familiar with the stories but not fanboys, to name a character, darth vader, the villain of the piece (for the most part, there is a brief redemption at the end) would top the list

if you want to be remembered, do something horrible

@djjd62,
The younger Bush was compared with Hitler much more than Obama is...

I tend to think horrible people will eventually be forgotten leaving only the lovers of humanity to stand the test of time...

I believe Martin Luther King Jr.'s words will endure long after Hitler is forgotten...

@RexRed,
you obviously haven't strayed onto the political threads here, obama's policies are regularly compared to The National Socialist German Workers' Party
