@tsarstepan,
A tetragnathid spider uses silk as an anchor.
Scientists have learned that spiders are able to travel across water like ships, using their legs as sails (inset) and silk as an anchor.

The spiders are restless today. Last night, I swept and mopped the kitchen and bathroom. Some webs damaged, and all their little trophies landed in the trash. Today, they just look kind of nervous.

Mrs edgarblythe works jigsaw puzzles. The other day, a spider got into the box of puzzle pieces. Every time she reached for a piece, it rushed at her hand. She squished it.

@edgarblythe,
The spider was getting a tad too territorial and protective of the puzzle pieces. Confused

A newly discovered species of saddleback trapdoor spider in the Northern Territory. Photo Suppki/AAP

Great news, if you love spiders! Thirteen new species of spider have been discovered on Queensland’s Cape York peninsula – adding to the thousands of known species that give Australian wildlife its fearsome reputation. The new species were found by scientists, teachers and Indigenous rangers during a 10-day Bush Blitz.

@tsarstepan,
Thanks for that, tsar, and for the link. I followed it to find out if that was a photo or a painting and spent the best 15 minutes finding out. Wow.

@tsarstepan,
Many of those photographs in your link look like CGI.

Maybe it's the nature of digital photography that is producing these images that look very different from analog images, like with the color saturation of the hummingbird image.

I visited the Brooklyn Botanical Garden last Sunday for the Chile Pepper Festival. Stumbled onto this permanent resident.
