Default on Noise Filter

Has everyone noticed that the default when using the "new post" button is to filter out the unpopular threads, and even if you set for all threads you continually need to reset? Obviously people are lazy, and also if we are not in the habit of constantly checking we will end up balled up the a2k popularity metric.

The noose continues to tighten, as it becomes increasingly impossible to avoid the a2k popularity driven sifting of content.

Am I the only one who is alarmed?

Yes.

If you've been reading and keeping up with the threads about the latest updates and merger transitions, you'd know that there is a bug that is causing that and an attempt to squash the bug is in the works. The original intention was to have your choice be sticky and not revert to the noise filter as the default.

@hawkeye10,
This has been remarked about in a few or several places, and will be fixed.

i get the opposite-i have thumbed down all the posts on 'new posts' that i dont want to see until each page has an average of from 1-3 threads readable, of course i still have to go through page after page to find the new posts of interest. and some i have thumbed down will pop up again later.

also there is the endearing feature of 'my forums' which is constantly being populated with a lot of tripe and i am not sure what i am doing to offend the mechanism that it adds those things. i diligently remove them from the list but more continue to show up.

by the way...what's a nice guy like you doing in a place like this?

It currently doesn't filter by popularity (yet, that is a signal that will be added) at all. You really have no idea what you are taking about, as per usual.

As for the preference being reset, that is a bug that is being worked on, so you can fear-monger away on that till we fix it but it wasn't intentional (and we don't yet know why it happens).

I'll assume that is Sarcasm, as Nice is not a word that has ever been associated with me at a2k.

IDK, when the noise filter is on all of the zero popularity threads vanish from my screen when I try to get last posted threads. Must be a glitch in my computer then..I refuse to use the voting system, so it has nothing to do with my actions, it is done based upon how other people have voted.

@hawkeye10,
They just must not be topics in forums you tend to participate in then, that is what the filter is doing right now. If you go participate in a bunch of those word games threads your list will be full of them again.

But hey, don't let total ignorance of how it works stop you, there's foul play afoot!
