The phrase "remain up", means "it has passed the time of going to bed, why not hurry to sleep now?". But how to use it? Just saying "remain up" is enough?
TIA
oristarA- I have never heard the phrase "remain up". I would say "I am going to "stay up", meaning that I am not going to bed now.
I would never use "stay up" alone, except in this case:
"Are you going to come to bed now, or stay up?"
"Stay up" ( meaning, "I am going to stay up")
Eh... thanks Phoenix.
Two of my dictionaries in hand record the phrase "remain up". I think I'd better ignore the phrase.
Oristar- Thinking about it, "remain up" is a phrase, but I have never heard anyone use it in casual speech. It sounds kind of stilted to me. "Stay up" is much more widely used.
