According to expectations the power in Turkmenistan could not have changed without outside interference. To all seeming Turkmenistan?s new president?s personality is unsuitable, for example, to Americans, who consider this oil-rich country as a zone of their strategic interests. US experts characterize Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov as ?hypocritical, revengeful and spiteful politician?. But when they begin to ground their views, it turns out that Berdymukhammedov?s main ?crime? against the USA is his striving to continue the policy of Niyazov, who dared to place Turkmen ruling leadership?s interests above US ones. Americans believe that Berdymukhammedov will not have a lot of weight for realization of his intentions. So they enter into cooperation with potential opponents of Turkmenistan?s leader, possibly planning to put into practice the next forced ?democratization? of existing political regime there. That is why in 2007 one after another several US high officials visited this country. Among them there was US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Evan A. Feigenbaum, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Steven R. Mann, and Acting Coordinator of US Assistance to Eurasia, Thomas C. Adams. On the other side, making no disguise of their plans, Americans force US-dependent ?colored democracies? (first of all, it is related to Ukraine) to export ?liberal revolution? to Turkmenistan through own channels. And those ?democracies? are following received orders, as far as one can judge. Recent scandalous leak of information about Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service plans in relation to Turkmenistan testifies in all evidence that official Kiev has seriously undertaken task, put under its care, and is going to employ Berdymukhammedov?s assistant, V. Khramov, as his main opponent. The latter (if you are out of touch with it) curates technical military cooperation between two countries and, thereby, has old-established contacts with Ukrainian special services.

@Victor cv,
Turkmen Bashi (Niyazov, aka "father of all Turkmen") was an egomanical psycopath, so while yes he was intensely nationalistic, he was bad for his people. The largest building under his rule was a solid gold statue of himself in Ashgabat that rotated to face the sun. Turkmenistan large natural gas resources, and theoretical oil reserves in the Caspian, but who cares? We've got Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation for that.

In short: **** Turkmenistan.
