What do you think about Russia's recent military display in the name of Terrorism?

Cold war never stopped. If you or your family is stationed in Europe, then you know that. Someone just declared victory, went home, then proceeded to dismantle our western defenses.

Russia and China are continuing and intensifying their "Cold War" activities. One example is the 10s of millions of sophisticated hostile intrusion attempts on US systems every day. This is up from the hundreds of thousands each day in the late 90s. They are also working together to support surrogates like Iran and other Islamic nations and entities. They are supporting destabilization operations in Africa and South America.

Did you read about Putin's order to restart the Russian polar and other long range strategic bomber exercises? The purpose of these missions during the Cold War was to probe and test our defenses and our response time(s).

These strategic bomber training missions necessitated intercept missions from our forces throughout the world. Oh, by the way, the Russian bombers almost always had full operations bomb loads. The primary reason these missions stopped was the lack of cash in Russia. Now that they have Europe over the oil barrel, paying through the nose, they have the cash to continue.

Now our intercepts will need to restart, we'll need to increase our fighter/interceptor force structure and the attendant combat support and combat service support organizations and force structure. We'll need to re-insert our forces into northern Europe and our other closed bases on several continents.

That splain it?

@tvsej,
Yes....the Cold War is over because the USSR no longer exists. Russian aggression, on the other hand, still exists. But, it's idle saber-rattling right now, because Russia, as usual, is a dismally screwed up country and society. Why do you think it embraced Communism? Russia is a mess and always has been.

Oh, I didn't need explaining, I saw the whole event, fireworks show and all yesterday on the news.
The restart, started yesterday, they will from now on have 14 bombers in the air fully loaded (no games) at all times 365 days a year. China Pres. was there with his military tank show. They are uniting for anti terror and defense purposes, so they say. Do you see how this "War on Terror" GW started is going to pave the way to a WWIII. Now countrys are using this to restart the "Coldwar" openly and stir the pot. Sure it never really ended, now there is no reason to hide it.:rocketwhore:

Read Sun Tsu. GW didn't start the war. It was started more than 30 years ago during the cold war. These battles are just a continuation. The next phase will be Russia steaming its fleets as a blue water navy again. The other major commie element of the cold war (China) was building its capability throughout the late 80s and 90s. They are being more surreptitious, attempting to create conditions that eliminate the need to fight while building their military to peer or near-peer status. They've been able to do this by devaluing their currency and maintaining that valuation artificially; investing in ways that allow deniability; while buying and exporting our critical military industrial capabilities.

@tvsej,
It does seem that the world is polarizing into Russia, China, Brazil, India, China, central Asia, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, even Germany on one side; and the US, , Australia on the other side.

So, where is the UK, in your esteemed opinion? Good time for Scoob to jump in with his 'Death to America' mania.:no:

@tvsej,
"..US, , Australia.." should have been ..US, UK, Australia, Israel, Japan and even Persian Gulf states. But what needs to be understood is that many alliances are a result of coersion rather than free will, and they'll change sides with a shift in balance of power.

As significant as the euro seems, as insignificant as the EU seems due to lack of a political unity. But the key factor is that, unlike before, Russia and China are united, and have held several joint military exercises together. US had 3 military bases in central Asia, which Russia and China wish to see the US leave. One country has kicked the US out. Another has raised rent on the US, so much that now the rent on the base amounts to half of that country's national budget.
