2007_09_04_giuliani_head Another week and another closeted, gay Republican criminal sex scandal. The latest involves the Rudy Giuliani presidential campaign where an event organizer steps down after it was revealed he was arrested for extorting a college student in a sex case ... and convicted for fencing stolen state computers.

The two criminal incidents happened within months of each other in 1998. The details are quite colorful:

According to a Florida State University arrest affidavit: Barry S. Edwards was first charged after a 19-year-old FSU political science intern claimed Edwards, then an adjunct professor, plied him with beers, trolled briefly for prostitutes, watched ''heterosexual'' pornography and then exhorted him to masturbate in a game.

The intern said Edwards threatened him with bad grades if he didn't ''get into it.'' He declined to press charges. Edwards said the claims were ''lies'' but he didn't ''want to revisit it.'' Edwards was fired from FSU.

The 45-year-old Edwards told the Miami Herald the charges were "old news.''

In June, Giuliani's South Carolina chairman, the state treasurer, Thomas Ravenel, was indicted on federal cocaine charges. When it rains, it pours.

I guess some gays are sexual deviants. Would your opinion of him change much if he were a democrat?

Of course they are dragging up news that happened almost ten years ago... typical.

He was arrested because of the claims of the 19 year old. Was he convicted of it? Just curious...

Blah, there are so many people involved in these elections somebody from every camp will be going to jail before Nov, 08. It's law of large numbers

Now had Rudy tried to defend him I would say this is news

Absolutely not....Sexual orientation doesn't have a thing to do with morality, or one being a criminal or not.

Barney Frank was censored (i.e. paid a price) for his indiscretion. However, his constituency saw fitting to re-elect him as their congressman. Much like Giuliani and Newt Gingrich admitting to their indiscretions...folks f... up, unlike you. LOL

Puh-leeze! When Bill Clinton was elected president, he was hounded by news reports of his indiscretions from years ago. Trouble is, when you're in the public eye, you're an open book,and they do bring out everything that they can find...conventional wisdom....got a sordid past? Stay out the public eye.

Silverchild...I know it's hard for you to keep up, and keep on topic..but we were past the point of identifying who did what to whom...it became about timeframe and relevance to the political "here and now'....
Was dredging up misdeeds and indiscretions from years ago, relevant now, was the question. Try to pay attention.

no you missed my point

Monica-gate was relevant at the time it happened, chronologically extremely relevant. My point was that Liberal bloggers who minimalized Clinton's conduct will try and use this story to smear Giuliani even thought it happened long ago and he wasn't even involved.

Smear Giuliani? Please! Like he is morally responsible for anyone other than himself. The only thing he is guilty of is not doing a thorough background check into each and everyone of his staff, so that it would not come up and be a distraction from getting his message out. Not everybody does cheap shots...the the Republicans.
