edgar, You will not recognize Campbell or Milpitas. This area changed dramatically in the last 35 years. I think San Jose is now the third largest city in CA, and number one in average income. It's also the fifth largest economy in the world.

Really, CI? Gee!

I have finally kicked in as far as feeling good about this next week. I wasn't negative, just not... involved. Now my niece and her father (my ex's brother) are coming up from LA from C. Eve to next Monday - yippee!!!! - and in the middle of that a friend from the SF area is skipping out on her husband and his brother on Friday to come up and have dinner with me at the local fancy schmancy place and catch up on girl talk. A get together within a get together. (Niece and her dad can go to the movies....) Lovely, now I'm sparked.

The school I attended near Miliptas was Airpoint. It was a one room building with one teacher and 17 kids from the first through the eighth grades. 5 of the seventeen were myself and some brothers and sisters.
I don't recall any buildings at Los Gatos, but there may well have been a few.

Holidays, no matter its origins, should be enjoyed with family and friends. It's the only excuse we have during the year when most people can get a respite from work. Life is too short to always concentrate on our problems and work.

Edgar, I too like MisterEthought's outlook. I only wish he will enjoy moments like that either everyday for a few hours or each weekend. I'm retired and live like that almost all the time. But that's the point of retirement. And as C.I., says, life is too short. Most of us live as if we were immortal. Such a shame. Here's a thought: Do not live each day as if tomorrow will be your last; live each day as if yesterday was your last.
The most peaceful and loving Xmas---and all other days--to all.

That's beautiful. When I get ready to retire I want to live the same way. But I want CI to show me a few travel spots first.

edgar, I would be more than honored to show you some travel spots. This great country of ours has many, and we have yet to visit them. I'm waiting for my wife to retire, because she hates to travel to countries with too much poverty, and most are. When she retires at the end of next year, we're going to hop into our car and travel the 50 states. Wink

C.I., in your state-side travels you must come and visit us. I'll gladly be your local guide. You too Edgar.

Thank you, JLN. We have always enjoyed our travels to the southwest. If you ever come up to Northern California, I offer you and edgar the same.

You can recognize Milpitas by closing your eyes and using your sense of smell. That hasn't changed at all. Confused

One place in California that doesn't stink but you'd think it would is Los Banos.

Happy holidays everyone!

We lived in the hills near Milpitas, in a house owned by a man with lots of cows. I was only in the actual town once or twice.

cjh, Actually, it's only when we travel through Alviso from Mountain View to Milpitas that the stinch can get offensive. Otherwise, it's okay during most of the year.

Can't smell it at all from Houston. Of course, we have Pasadena to make up for it.

Edgar, My son and his wife live in the home they own in Union City near Milpitas. I called them after the big earthquake in Paso Robles to see if they had any damage. None to report. I also called my friends who live in Atascadero. They had no damage, but only because they don't have lots of glass articles on open shelves. Their horses in the barn got very nervous and needed calming. Their next door neighbors had a lot of glass damage. Lots of stuff dumped on the floor, but no injuries.

It's a great day so far...children happy , everyone, even the teenagers up early...even me up early.....everyone taking equal joy in watching others open their presents as in getting them....and squinney and I have been working in the kitchen a few hours.....we have two friends who were ruined in divorces so we began having them for dinner a couple of years ago and now it's a tradition...there's enough food for every one of you....and only eight of us!!!!! survey says LEFTOVERS!!!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying this day no matter what it means to you.....forget the crap...it'll be waiting tomorrow...but NOT today........
