And the wise men with red nosed camels.
Or maybe the wise men with a pack of Camels.
Yayyy, on the random giving, JL, I understand completely. Love to you both at ... ta da... New Year's.
...someday, In the far future, all these traditions will be considered pagan rituals
They are now, by some of us.
There is a great deal of the pagan in all of our holidays - But, so what? Does that mean people could no longer have fun and get together if it were broadly recognized? I think there will always be Scrooges and Grinches and most of the rest of us.
I'm not antagonistic to the pagan in rituals myself.
We are, after all, all ritualistic animals.
Humans need traditions to hold society together.

C.I., I have never seen, in all the anthropological literature I'm familiar with, any reference to our species as "the ritualistic animal" (symbol making animal, tool making animal, yes, but not ritual making and performing animal). You are obviously right, and you've got the copyright on the concept.

Love back to you, Osso.
Did he dance through tulips? Me, I'd just pull up a chair among the tulips..

How utterly lazy. I like that.

That Edgar's amazing: he doesn't believe in the Christian God, but he believes in Santa Claus. I was once asked by a Mexican peasant if gringos believe in the saints. I answered, "Well, in Santa Claus, yes." I told her I was joking afterwards.
I once wrote a tale in which the ghost of long dead Scrooge teams up with Santa Claus to change one cretin's heart. To me, these two creations are as real as anyone, in many ways, and it has little to do with conventional religious belief.

I understand and I agree. Ho, ho, ho, ho...humbug.
JLN, With a deeper voice like this, ho, ho, ho, ho....
