I think it's a non-sensical username.

Hi Craven,

I suggest you put "asdfghjklqwertyuiop" into google and search it. You might find out many examples of the word.

I googled it, and all the posts that came up were either forums or contests, indicating a username, non-sensical, and non-pronouncable, and with no meaning.

You find many examples of that string of letters, but it's not a word. Look more closely and you'll see that the slashdot examples seem to be articles written by a person or entity called asdfghjklqwertyuiop. You know that's not his name, it's just a string he uses as a username for his articles on slashdot.

Other examples are similar, or else examples of keyboard layouts. In no case is this used as a word.

Eh... there is someone used it as a drug name...

Plus, it is logical layout for letters on keyboard. And keyboard is a tool with which we communicate with our computer and thus communicate with the rest of the world... So, maybe the "word" can mean "a bridge for communication"?

Just my 2 cents.

You've got a good imagination, oristar, Wink but it's not a word nor is it a drug name, and it's non-pronouncable. If someone used it as a drug name it might've been that they were just using an unintelligible string of letters to show they couldn't remember the correct name.

Maybe it is not an accepted word, Roberta? Or google wouldn't get such many messages about it. Rolling Eyes

It's not any kind of word. It's just a string of unrelated letters--the two middle rows of characters on a standard typewriter keyboard. These letters are easy to type, just start at the left and go to the right. Maybe they relate to something, but they're not a word. Honest.

Oristar, I went to google and typed in dfgdfgdfg. Google managed to find over 1300 results. I was just typing completely random keys, and that string of letters isn't a word either.

O...kay, someone used it as name of their site:

http://asdfghjklqwertyuiop.8U8.com

Monger, if you really typed it randomly, like "sfklsajf", you would find nothing listed. Smile

Yes I typed it randomly, and yes I got lucky (though it was only my 3rd try), but it wouldn't be too hard to find more such examples through Google. Wink

By the way, I think "asdfghjklqwertyuiop" is less random than my example, as there's an obvious explanation for the particular order those letters are written in.

BTW, Oristar. Within that string of words, there is a word. And it's a wonderful word for Scrabble players. QWERTY. It refers to a standard typewriter/computer keyboard--a QWERTY keyboard.

It's sometimes the people that don't make sense, vroonika, not the words.

Lovely helpful post there vroonika. OristarA's serious questions regarding English were probably well-served by that response of yours. Mind you, as a native speaker of English, one would expect that you actually read and comprehended the original question which clearly stated that OristarA knew that the combination of letters were the arrays of the keyboard, but was confused regarding other issues surrounding the imaginary word. We googled to be helpful. That's what we do here, try to be helpful. Perhaps you should try that sometime.
