@Silverchild79,
Trouble is, if they win, he doesn't have that much money, so insurance might pay it. Who pays for the insurance? The citizens through taxes and fees.
He should rot in jail and they should maybe get a little money, not $30 million.

@Silverchild79,
they don't deserve money, but they do deserve their life back and that can't be given. I think the Government Nifong works for has some civil liability to indemnify the falsely accused here

@Silverchild79,
Agreed, but why so large an amount? Punitive damages?
Nifong, not the public that pays the taxes committed the crime.

While NiFong was the apparent leader in the violation of the Duke 3's civil rights, he was not alone. Several members of the Durham PD and the Durham city government were full and willing participants in this illegal frame. Additionally, Durham voters were principally responsible for electing Mike NiFong (it was a county wide election) after NiFong's illegal actions had been highly publicized.

BTW Durham has an insurance policy that pays only 5 million after a 500,000 deductible. And the company has put the city on notice that they will not renew the policy, probably because Durham has done absolutely nothing but try and justify the illegal actions of their police department.

@Silverchild79,
That dude Finnerty has a criminal history involving harassment and assault. He was arrested for picking on a gay guy in D.C. during the Duke proceedings. The incident was ignored by the press. I say they weren't saints.

1st of all the guy was not gay in the incident that you allude to, that is a rumor that was contradicted by the the man's testimony in court. 2nd of all Finnerty does not have a criminal record outside of his arrest in the Duke Lacrosse case as this incident has been officially expunged. 3rd it was the other man, not Finnerty that iniated violence, again by the other man's testimony in court. Basically all Finnerty did was have the other guy tackle him as a pre-emptive strike for Finnerty making a fist. This incident was hardly ignored by the press, it was covered extensively at the time but was dropped once the evidence in Finerty's favor came out.

Very few people meet the definition of saints as defined by the Catholic church, although Finnerty and Seligman were alter boys.
