Blackwater scares me

They can't do any mercenary work.

What is "mercenary work" and why should a legitimate military force not be able to do this sort of work?

Some of the work that mercenary's do is almost a waste for the general military to do. Such as security details for for a local sheik or mayor. Why would we want to waste a group of proper military on protecting a sheik or other local official when they should be running security for the general people. Plus "mercs" are also used to supplement the existing forces. They can also be used for support with the local police military. And finally there may be missions or things that may need to be done that may not look to well if the proper military carried it out.

An example would be: In a military zone with civilian contractors, not including blackwater. Maned military outposts are ordered to defend places and cannot participate let say in an emergency rescue for maybe private contractors or the press. You cannot send in the military. You can send blackwater. Who do you think provides security for privately own business's rebuilding in Iraq?

I would not go as far to say they are a joke. They do have a rather extensive training facility. Plus they are in fact over there doing the job. I don't really think some lame ass drug store cowboy can really hack it over in Iraq with bullets flying past them.

Blackwater is controlled by former intelligence and military personnel. their purpose is to protect high-profile people travelling in the Green Zone and such. their personnel are highly trained mercs who I would want on my side anyday.
they are located in Moyock NC on a bunch of acres of land and have a private landing strip. they are highly connected in DC.

I just picked up that book that is included in the first post of this thread. I will get back to everyone when I have it completed.
