WHAT DO WE WANT FOR CHRISTMAS?

Reply Fri 29 Nov, 2002 06:34 pm
Truly, seriously, honestly - I want to jump back
for a moment, to rekindle, re - experience the
greatest decision making event of the year for
kids of ALL ages.....what DO you want for
Christmas? Have YOUR Christmas's been merry?
Have your wishes come true? What do you wish
for today? Sharing may get some spirit into the
holiday.....for each of us. Welcome, come on
in, and sit a spell.

babs, it's just not the same as it used to be. When I was a kid, we would receive the Sears Roebuck Christmas Toy Book and each of us (there were 7 in all) would go through the book and put our initial on those toys of interest. Then each would revisit the selected items and use some sort of rating system to alert Santa to which were of the most urgent need and which could wait until next year. It was our presumption that our parents forwarded this catalog to Santa directly so he would know what goodies to deliver to our home.

When my own kids were small (and Sears discontinued its catalogues) they would each make up a list of no more than 5 items (this allowed for parental involvement in selecting additional items and also helped teach them not to be too greedy or Santa wouldn't like it). My daughter, at the age of approximately 5 years, included a lollipop as one of her requests. Never figured that one out.

Anyway, now the kids are grown and out of the house and all I really want for Christmas is to have them back here on Christmas Eve, happy and healthy and continuing to enjoy Christmas with the folks.

It certainly has changed being an adult, and having the children in my life grown...its not much more than another day, with visiting family and eating a good dinner perhaps.
I do enjoy it a great deal though, just remembering how nice of a day it can be, without commercialism and with more spirit of the season.
I want to be able to have some decorations and things about to lift my joy factor. I for once dont want to travel hours to see anyone but rather have a peaceful and joyous time myself.
I wish for peace and happiness Smile

Only what I need, of course I need and want everything. Actually I want only to love and be loved not just at Christmas but all the time. However, have learned that that is an extreme so will settle for being loving as much as I possibly can and except that I am not always lovable and will try harder to accept the love I get.

Oh bandylu2
You bring back so many many
memories Sad
I loved those Sears Christmas
books
Twas unfortunate that mom was
a drunk, and dad was always
working, and I never did
get the things I asked
for, even though
they were few Crying or Very sad
HOWEVER as I told one of my grown
daughters the other day when she
asked me what I wanted for
Christmas,
I wish for that one day, that you
could all be my little girls
once more, just for
the day
Any longer and I couldn't stand it! Laughing

Bandylu, I love your idea with the catalogues!

I want a Digicam, and I KNOW I'm not gonna get it! I also want a new computer, but I think that's going to wait until January.

That's all, so I guess I'm gettin' nuttin'!!!

Babs, yep, one day would do it! That would make me remember why I was always wishing my kids were older, he he!!! Drunk

Thanks, Misti, but it wasn't my idea. It was my clever Mom's idea -- born or the necessity of trying to make order out of the chaos of having 7 kids.

Bandylu, I can relate to that! We also had 7 children, 6 girls, 1 boy! Guess who was spoiled?

The wish book, have not thought of that in years. Sometimes wishing is more fun than getting.
