@DrewDad,
The fact that a forum moderator does engage is a plus here for the most part but it can cause possibly more aggravation than I personally would be comfortable with. More online forums have one or more of these types who have nothing better to do than spread their brand of misery.

@Ragman,
Robert's engagement is a great thing for us. I think that it creates unwarranted aggravation for Robert, however.

@Setanta,
Set- Rob and I, in the past, have not always gotten along. That does not take away from the fact that he runs a dynamite forum, works his ass off on it, and always tries to improve it.

Personally, philosophy is not my "thing". I have looked at some of the threads, and honestly, can't make head nor tail of some of it. Then again, I don't care much for the puzzle threads either. That does not take away from the fact that this forum is so diverse, that there is always SOMETHING that interests me.

I think that we need to keep an open mind, and greet the philosophy folks like they were new neighbors. Remember, we don't own this forum. Rob does, and it because of him that we have what we do here.

@Phoenix32890,
Here, here.

I have lived in my house for 15 years and still do not associate with some of the neighbours. That doesn't take away from the neighbourhood or community.

True. But their leaves blow onto mine in the fall and I have to clean them up. Wink

Dunno...but while my serial sevens and such are fine, my digit and meaningless items sucks.

Then again, I never liked digits.

I grew up within the environing notion that fundamental good manners
constrain a man from abusing his host while he is actively accepting his hospitality; less than that is uncivilized.
This forum is not a prison.

In the fullness of candor, I will affirm that I have great admiration and gratitude for our host on this website,
while Setanta's chronic verbal malice & his endless unprovoked rudenesses have progressively dragged down
my esteem of him, beneath contempt. Perhaps the most naive of masochists will delight themselves in him.

It seems odd: Y woud a man choose to act like a jerk,
almost continually for so many years ?

Possibly, he might be mentally sick, but altho the M'Naghten rule
woud get him off the hook in a court of law, it does not matter here.
In a social ambiance, that does not count; the denizens of A2K shoud not have to put up with that.

@Robert Gentel,
I generally don't hold grudges . . . in your case, i make an exception, because you've been doing this for years, and, as i've pointed out, you recently said that you intend to attack me every time i post something you don't like.

I'm glad to hear that you've gone after Ionus, that would be a good thing. I don't notice that it's done any good, but he certainly deserves it. I probably didn't notice because i have ignored him for quite a while now.

You claim about a tu quoque fallacy is nonsense, though. As i have pointed out, you have launched your personal attacks against me literally for years. There was the incident where the creep told Brooke that she shouldn't be allowed to reproduce, at which time you went after me for my remarks to him, rather than after him for his remarks to her. There was the incident in which Scrat said socialism was a failed system, to which i observed that the Chinese might not agree. Thomas and Habibi then both tried to claim that i was therefore an apologist for Chinese communism, so i called them a pair of planks. You came after me for that.

It's not that you comment on what i post, it's how you comment, and the consistency with which you comment. I just don't like your ******* attitude toward me, with a history of hostility over years, and the relentless nature of your attacks. So, if i can bait you, i will. This thread is a wonderful example of how easy it is to bait someone eaten up with their own vanity. You told that little creep Mark Noble to ignore me, that i was just baiting him. That is largely true, and it worked because he is so eaten up with vanity.

Works a treat with you, too.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

@OmSigDAVID,
Thank you for a perfect example of your snide hypocrisy when the topic is your obsessional opposition to any form of gun control. I see your cordiality and courtesy didn't last long there.

Neither of your claims about lies are in fact true. You used that verbal figure on me, and you recently used a form of it on Parados. Saying these are lies doesn't alter the fact that this is exactly what you did.

And, your self-preening opinions notwithstanding, your cordiality and courtesy are a very, very thin veneer.

@Ragman,
Well, of course it's my thread and therefore about me--and my continuing grudge against Narcissus Gentel.

No one here is subjected to anything. Reading this thread is entirely voluntary. You remind me of a letter to the editor which i read in the 1970s when "streaking" was popular. A minister (or so he claimed) wrote in to the newspaper to complain about how he and his family were subjected to the depraved spectacle for twenty minutes on a downtown street. The street to which he referred was the bar strip in a college town, which every townie knows. One has to wonder what lead him to take his family down there and stand around for twenty minutes watching a bunch of drunks strip down and stagger around.

If you are so upset, why are you still reading and posting here?

@DrewDad,
At no time have i suggested or even vaguely hinted that anyone here owes me anything. The same goes for you as for Ragman--if you don't like the exercise, don't participate. I am reminded of the time when my log-in failed and i complained about it. You showed up to put your oar in, although my conversation was with RG. Then you asked my i was attacking you and RG. As though you had anything to do with it.

You just can't stay away, can you? I set out to bait RG, and not only does that work, but several other carp rise to the lure, as well.
