confused about the changes

Is there a way to reset my view so after I read a post and consider it, that I can find it? it is no longer "new" and disappears into the ether.

I suppose if one doesn't think about what they post, this does not matter....

as an example, I tried to put this on RG's new ask questions thread, but only "new" posts are left on the new posts page. having read it, it is no longer "new". I can'tfind it, and don't wish to wait around for it to be new again.

is there still a way just to see everything as it occurs, in big picture view?

I liked the old way. (i do like the "new" button)

mebbe i'll adjust.

mebbe some of you will be overjoyed and I won't.

@Rockhead,
I just discovered that I had to make sure that my New Post view was set to All Forums rather than My Forums.

Made quite a bit of difference in what I was able to see.

@ehBeth,
I wonder if you would have to tag a thread that you were thinking of responding to, but didn't have your answer fully formulated, so you could find it by way of creating your own mini-forum.

"rocky's working on an answer"

of course, then you'd have to untag it once you'd responded

it's a long way around to solve the problem

hopefully a brainiac knows a shortcut

@ehBeth,
it resets back to places I don't want to be reset to as well.

thanks for responding.

(and I don't come here to work...)

there is also a new (to me) button in the preferences that was set to yes automatically, asking if I wanted friends to find me by my e-mail...

@Rockhead,
I asked your "pondering about an answer" question in Nick's changes thread.

I thought that email thingie had been there for years.

~~~
The re-set now goes to the first thing you haven't read in a thread vs the butt-end of the thread. Shouldn't make too much difference in most threads (other than word games where it will be a pain in the patoot).
@ehBeth,
if they just left them in the scroll without the "new" on them, it would be perfect, in my not so listened to opinion.
the e-mail thingy may have, i'm slow...
Okay, where do you do this now?
I have no clue on how to get the view back to include all posts, like it was before.
Before, I used to click 'New Posts', and it would give you all the new posts. Now, I can't see my own doing this. I have to click on 'My Posts'?
@Reyn,
Hi Reyn,
click on new posts - look on the left side - it will either say "my forums" or "all forums"
clicking on "all forums" should improve what you can see
after the changes last night , it is set so the beginning section contains threads with posts you have not read - after that are threads that don't contain new posts
there is a better (hopefully) explanation on the thread Nick Ashley started about "grid changes" (but can I find the thread to bring you the link? mebbe Laughing
@ehBeth,
Okay, but clicking on 'New Posts', at the moment, gets me to a blank page. I suppose it's being worked on.
It is not possible to bookmark the page, so it comes up as "All forums" all the time? It seems to default to "My Forums".
@ehBeth,
I'm pretty sure the difference is that now you have a choice. Click "New" and you get every thing since your last visit. You can still click the user name and go directly to the last post.
Anyhow, I think that's what's been happening.
Shouldn't it just be posts that are Unanswered?
@Mame,
Just guessing, but maybe it only becomes answered when the best answer is selected by the author. To show how much attention I pay, I don't even know if this would be a change, or not.
@Mame,
Yeah, it's responded to, but not "answered".
@roger,
That is correct, but not a recent change (it has been that way since day one of this software).
It is, however, something that needs a lot of improvement, as there is not much at all directing users to close the questions.
----------------
@all As for the grid confusion/questions please keep it to the thread Nick started for that, I'm going to try to centralize my answers there.
@ehBeth,
What constitutes "answered"?
@Mame,
When a the question asker selects a reply as the answer.
@Mame,
It's answered when the person who asked the question designates "the" answer.
As I recall, they select "the" answer and it then gets a little symbol of some sort attached to it.
You can check your own stats and see if you've been determined to have answered any questions by a question-asker.
@ehBeth,
Look at all I don't know on this site! I had no idea you could do that. In that case, all of my topics should be in that category since I've never indicated they were answered. Interesting... ver-y in-ter-est-ing.
