Quote:
Over the decades, Europe has alternated between excessive optimism and bouts of “Euro-pessimism” such as the current period. As the journalist Marcus Walker recently put it, Europe “was supposed to come of age as an actor on the world stage, bolstered by the Lisbon Treaty. Instead, Europe is starting to look like the loser in a new geopolitical order dominated by the US and emerging powers led by China.”

What does "Euro-pessimism" mean? Does it mean the common currency for EU?

@fansy,
Optimism and pessimism looks on the bright and dark sides of things respectively. Europessimism literally means, Pessimistic about Europe.
Europe's optimism came from the idea that the Lisbon Treaty would've enhanced Europe's standing in the world. Europe's pessimism comes from the idea that China and the United States are more powerful than Europe.
