Consumerism

Very well illustrated.

This isn't anything new, but it's told in such a way - in such an easily-understood format - that it's very hard to "miss the boat".

Rampant consumerism lies at the foundation of many of our most-troublesome issues: resource depletion, environmental degradation, economic volatility, physical health, suffering concepts of self, juxtaposed priorities by our government, third-world exploitation, a sickened sociological system of control and much, much more. Everyone should watch this - echos of "Brave New World". Its quick and easy to understand.

We have to remember that consumerism is caused by something - something allows for consumerism and something promotes it. Industrialization allows for broad consumerism; consumerism beyond the world of the super-rich. The desire for 'one dollar more', the desire for greater and greater profits, causes the bombardment of advertising which pushes people to want more and more products.

Turn off the TV, be grateful for what you have. Remember why Socrates loved the market?
