UNITED NATIONS - The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously on Saturday to impose punishing sanctions on North Korea for its claimed nuclear test, declaring that its action posed "a clear threat to international peace and security." North Korea immediately rejected the resolution, and its U.N. ambassador walked out of the council chamber after accusing its members of a "gangster-like" action which neglects the nuclear threat posed by the United States. Ambassador Pak Gil Yon said North Korea wants talks but warned that it will consider increased U.S. pressure a declaration of war.
@Justin,
It's interesting to note that the only country that found residual effects of the testing was the United States.
It was also joked about four years ago that the next "target" by the USA would be Korea.
Not such a funny punchline.
@Aristoddler,
It is also interesting to note that the new UN secetary general is South Korean. Apparently there were multiple 'blasts' last week which only one was sufficiently large enough to be classed as a nuclear explosion. Obviously it had to be the US that found traces of radio activity. Firstly they have the best technology and suvaillance to do so, secondly the situation is sensative enough that if others gathered possitive results and waved them in the UNs face it would seen extreamly aggressive. Lastly remember 'WMD', it doesnt have to exist to be a legitimate reason to take action.
