@ehBeth,
I figger they're gonna be in togas...
The ghost of René Descartes logged on to this site a couple of years ago, and given my unhealthy fascination with history, i asked if he and Queen Christina Vasa of Sweden had secretly been lovers. He replied "I think not."
. . . and he hasn't posted here since. Strange that . . .

For crissake don't you go shoving yer butt in their faces as a welcome.
They aren't gods...I mean dogs.
@dlowan,
We all know what a new PhD philosophy major says:
perhaps a song to welcome them
Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out-consume
Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.
There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya'
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
SOCRATES, HIMSELF, WAS PERMANENTLY PISSED...
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away;
Half a crate of whiskey every day.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart: "I drink, therefore I am"
Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed!
@dlowan,
It's an oldie and a moldie and i couldn't resist . . .
@djjd62,

You've been THAT close to it?
Well? (she asks, breathless with anticipation)
Any new philosophers appeared here yet, Deb?

It's time he took it up!
Not that I have seen.
I suspect there have been a few technical difficulties?
I am off to work, so I doubt I shall be the first to meet and greet.
Be warm but not overwhelming folks.
Mannerly and mild.
Couth and kind.
Intelligent and impassive.
In other words, nothing like our normal selves!
@dlowan,

Heck, we wouldn't want to scare them away, Deb!
OK, we'll be nice.
Promise.
Hey I'm also from the philosophy forum, thanks for the welcome. I'm not against the merger, I think it was a good idea, but I have to say that the look of this forum is not as nice as what the other one was. Yeah I know, shallow remark huh? I guess I'll get use to it.
@Krumple,
Good news is that so does the person who made it. We have been trying to get a superstar graphic designer to join our team and help us redo it. But for now it's the work of programmers more than graphic designers and we have a refresh of the design planned (for right around when we get that superstar designer to sign on..).
@Robert Gentel,
Well I am a graphic designer, however I can't do any of the html or php. I would gladly lend my "talent" to designing a new look but the only thing is I would need is size of the images and how they would be laid out for flow. If you would rather wait for someone with both design and implementation ability that's fine, but the offer still stands.
@Krumple,
We can do implementation but we are so darn picky (e.g. we want perfection in design AND performance and are hoping to reduce all the design graphics to only one or two files of image sprites so that the site loads even faster) that we might drive you insane.
We have a lady in mind, and are a ways away from redesign but I'll definitely keep your offer in mind and feel free to give us suggestions and feedback as we know we have a long way to go and a lot of polish to do to bring this up to snuff.
