the kids these days!

Last week this 13 yr old kid (Santiago) came by the house, he asked if we needed any work done around the yard. I asked him a few question such as where does he live? where does he go to school? how are his grades? with these questions settled I finally said "sure, I always need something done in the yard."
He came back yesterday saying he had some free time and what would I like him to do so I had him pull weeds along the street and the side of the house. When he was done I asked if he wanted to come back when Lady Diane was home as I was sure she would have some chores for him and he said "yes I could come back on the weekend" I said "fine then, you do that and I'm sure there will be some work for you" I then asked him what I owed him for pulling the weeds and he said "nothing, I am doing this because my grandfather says I need to start learning what work is and when I get good at doing work then I can ask for payment." I gave him $5 and said "see you this weekend. He said he would be here either sat or sun depending on what his grandmother needed doing.
I tell you, the kids these days are worthless.

@dyslexia,
There ya go!

Good for Santiago and good for his grandpa too. (And also the crusty old codger who gave him $5 anyway.)

...Taking work from a Real American.

True story. Phone rings at my shop. Andy/Clubber answers "Studio Art."
"Is this a retail store?" "Um. yes."
"My son wants a summer job. Would you be interested in hiring him."

@dyslexia,
Should have given him a buck and a two minute water break. Granddad wanted him to find out about working for a living.

@dyslexia,
That's quite an amazing story, dys.
I can't quite get over it.
Now you & Diane have to worry about not exploiting this good child! Wink
