Good going. 12 contestants so far.

News from the Chilean squad. They say it's possible that Suazo may play against Honduras (but more probably, the second game, against Switzerland).

If only we had some sort of national sports channel in America. I know we Americans are backwards when it comes to soccer (yeah, that's right, soccer!) but I have never lacked in watching the games I want to watch.

Excellent! 12 players. I did send out a few emails Sunday or Monday. But they were to people whose names showed up in threads about soccer/football at some point in the past. I didn't expect there to be a high success rate.
I am done trolling or, in the case of ehbeth, whacking.
It looks like the live ESPN coverage of matches are at 7 am, 9:30 am and 2 pm ET.

As far as I've read, ABC will show some FOOTBALL matches on weekends (plus the semifinals and finals). Other matches will be aired on ESPN and ESPN2 (ABC paid about 100 million $$ for the rights)

I am sure that Fbaezer will be gearing up the scoring once play begins. Here, though, is some mindless stuff from me.
The 12 of us here have collectively chosen 23 different strikers for our teams. 11 of us have Villa (Spain). Only George left him off his roster. Fabriano (Brazil) and Rooney (Eng) appear on 6 of our lists while Torres (Spain) and Ronaldo (Port) show up on 4.
I gave each striker 5 points for each player who has him as #1, 4 points for being #2, etc. I added those points up and divided by the number of rosters on which the player appears.
Fabriano (Brazil) is included on fewer rosters but is ranked highly by those who have chosen him. He comes in a a ranking of 3.8 followed by Rooney (Eng) at 3.7. Ronaldo (Port): 3.3; Torres (Spain): 3.0 and Villa (Spain): 2.8.

The bars in Toronto have special dispensation to open at 10 a.m. during the World Cup.

There will be tiny sets of bleachers arranged in some of the underground here - with big screen t.v's to watch all of the games.

With our crazy crazy multicultural community, Toronto is World Cup mad!

@CalamityJane,
Very pretty, CJ. I have no idea what it means, though.
So the games begin tomorrow, I guess. Good luck to everyone.
I lived in South Africa for a couple of years during the time that apartheid was in its death throes.
I am holding my breath hoping that they can successfully pull this massive event off.

@realjohnboy,
johnboy, you just click on any date or any country and you'll get all the info
you need.
I have friends (South Africans) who will leave on Monday to go to S.A. for
the games. THey're so excited and I am certain that South Africa will present
itself as a gracious host and visitors will feel secure.

Don Camilo is lucky participant number 13.
Should I add that he is my son?

Just a few hours left.

We have 4 contestants from the USA, 3 from Mexico, 2 from Germany and one each from Canada, Ireland and France, plus sjaradona from the UN (so far).
There's still a small time window to register.

Let's all have a good time in the WC, and in this game.
May the best predictor win!!

The "Peppone" son won The A2K World Cup 2006 Fantasy Game.
They are both very knowledgeable about football.
