Trigeminal neuralgia - microsurgical rhizotomy

The above op has been recommended to me for consideration by my neurosurgeon as I have severe classic AND atypical TN. He has, of course, warned of the serious risks and complications that may follow but feels this might give a better chance of alleviating my constant atypical TN than a more straightforward and common MVD op. It's a big decision so if anyone has any experience they can share, I'd be very interested. Thanks.

@whiteviolets,
Just to make it clear, the neurosurgeon does not consider any through-the -cheek procedures would suffice in my case so has asked me to consider the op which is also called partial root section or partial sensory trigeminal rhizotomy, ie access behind the ear, as with an MVD.
