Please look at this English text ..

All around the world, species are vanishing as their habitat is turned over to crops.

note this ...habitat is turned over to crops. ....This looks improper wording.....how come ? habitat is a place Example: marine habitat

and crop is just a vegitable / yield /product ..Example: wheat is a crop


can we really write this ? Is it a correct English ?

Yes, this is correct. What it means is that the land where the habitat exists is being cleared and turned into farmland. For some animals, the habitat might be a forest. This forest is cut down and the land is then used to plant crops.

A habitat would have many species. A crop 'habitat' or farmland focuses on one species.
